Not sure if im posting in right section, so apologies if im not and please move accordingly.

just looking for some advice - about 7 years ago i done my driving theory test and then got a prov licence - i then got myself a car and was driving - first licence expired and i went on to get my second - however i wasnt comfortable driving so when my second prov expired i just let it go and didnt bother to drive. ( that was about 2 years ago)
i stil have car sitting in my parents garden - so im just wondering now whats the procedure if i want to start driving again ( i need to for work reasons)
will i need to re-sit my theory test again and go from there?
also my car's tax and NCT has long since expired (it hasnt been in use at all) can i just bring it in for NCT even tho last one expired over a year ago?

sorry for long winded post and tanx in advance for help.

well you dont need to reapply for your theory test, but in order to qualify for a third provisional you have to apply for a driving test.

This might be a better place to post in OP

As fas as I am aware you cannot apply online without a vaild permit, but your permit has a driver number on it which is your number stays the same on all your permits.

Therefore print off the application for the test & apply for the test via post & you should get a letter back informing you that you have applied for the test, bring that along with you to the motor tax office & apply for a 3rd permit.

I think that's the way you go about getting a 3rd following an expired permit, one of the lads can confirm or correct it anyway if I am right or wrong

With regards to the NCT, if the car needs work get that done first & yes you can book an NCT & bring it in on the due date. Each NCT test is vaild for 2 years up until the registration anniversary of the car, therefore if say your cars NCT expired 18mths ago you'll get a vaild NCT for 6 more months & you'll have to bring it back again for another test.

With regards to the NCT, if the car needs work get that done firs

It's better to bring the car for the NCT first, and if it fails, just get whatever it failed on fixed. It's only €28 to re-do the test- free in some cases.
A lot of people go for these "pre-NCT" tests, which usually more than the NCT itself, and end up getting a load of work done that the car didn't need to pass.

If you've sit a driving test in the past two years, you can apply for a two-year Learner Permit. Otherwise you'll have to show evidence of a forthcoming test, in which case you'll get a one-year Permit.

The easiest way to do it is to apply for your test by post, then use the letter that confirms your application to get a one-year Permit.
