Smelly Fridge Problem

Hi - I moved into rental accomodation recently and have one big problem, the fridge stinks! It looks spotless and I can't see any old spills or anything, however I have tried the following to get rid of the smell:

    Scrubbing it (several times)
    Lemons
    Baking soda
    Activated charcoal
Cleaned all of the seals and the outlet hole at the back also

None of this has worked, and it's really unbearable. The landlord has so far been no help and he doesn't want to get a new one. If anyone has had a similar experience and has any advice about what to do please let me know. I am getting desperate to get rid of the stench!! Thanks - any advice is appreciated.

have you tried wiping it down with white vingear ?

also, you said you used soda, did you put it in a bowl and leave it in the fridge for a few days?

the second tip on this link might work

Pull out fridge. At the back down low there is a drip tray which catches defrosted water. This flows into tray and should evaporate with heat off compressor. Clean out this tray. It may remove. Give it a good scrub. Should resolve problem.

Yup, this one took me ages to resolve & turned out to be the above. You may need to clear the little hole that the water drips through.

Thanks for the suggestions! I actually cleaned the outlet hole at the back of the fridge a few days ago. It was ful of brown gunk and I cleaned it out and then sterilised it with Milton. Still that didn't make a difference to the smell - I was so disappointed!! The only thing I haven't tried yet is the vinegar! I will give that a go this evening and see if it helps.

Quite often spilt milk will get in behind the door seal, especially at the bottom, not easy to get into, but can be removed if you get to the screws that are tucked inside the seal itself.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the repsonses. Luckily the landlord has agreed to take care of it so it's a big relief! No more smelly fridge!

    just another thought
is the smell coming from another source, possibly outlet from washing machine or waste from dishwasher
