As expected, the Plasticbook got refreshed this morning. Apple didn't even take the store down to do it. The white Macbook now comes with a 2.4GHz C2D and 10 hour battery life in line with the MBP.

Apple also increased the price from €929 to €999. This increase seems to have happened across all international stores.

It's kinda laughable that they're still trotting out "new" Core 2 Duo laptops, in my opinion.

Agreed, but Intel are being difficult so they don't have much choice. Putting an i5 (or even an i3) into the current 13 inch would mean going with integrated Intel graphics, which nobody wants. A separate gpu would be too hot and expensive and they'd have to redesign everything (probably sacrificing battery life in the process) to accommodate it. There's not a whole lot in the difference between the C2D and the i3 anyway.

Increasing the battery capacity and processor speed. The dastards!

The euro has taken a big slide against the dollar in recent weeks. Minus the VAT, the Macbook is €825. At today's exchange rate that equals about $1025. The US price is unchanged at $999, so there isn't a huge difference.

Do you think they should increase the price on every refresh as each refresh brings improvements?

It's just typical Apple, they won't be reducing the price if the Euro makes gains on the dollar in the coming weeks/months.

I love my macbook pro but my opinion on apple is waning of late.

Who knows, if there are big gains maybe they will. But Apple would have considered this before upping the price. I'm guessing they don't have much faith in the ECB to fix the problem. However, look at this way, they were selling it for €930 for several weeks even though it was less than the US price. So it works both ways.

Why? This is not a new thing. Apple have always had to set international prices while taking into account fluctuating exchange rates. Their business is based on the dollar so obviously they aren't going to do us any favours. Until we have a global currency this is always going to be a problem.

But obviously this sucks for anyone who was about to buy a Macbook.

    Why?

Loads of reasons, we could be here all day :)

I personally think they shouldn't be increasing prices, maybe it will effect their sales and they will learn their lesson. Doubtful though.
