I think I love watching it instead of reading it.
Because I can see they movements and hearing their voices. But there are times that I want to read them if I am excited to see the next episode. :pac:

They're grand, really. That said, they publish precious little that I'd read. I generally look to other publishers like Del-Ray and Black Horse.

Not like a comic book they are comic books and not all are developed into animated films or tv shows so worth checking some out as your missing out on some great work. Japanese work is printed and read from right to left however other Asian comics, like Korean and Chinese, are printed and read left to right but are often marketed as "authentic manga" usually by the likes of Tokyopop, most other publisher seem to be able to tell the difference.

Sequential Art is pretty straight forward to follow regardless of origin [unless of course the written part is in a language you don't read but even then depending on the story you might be able to follow] We see sequential art every day in the forum of print ads, signs and the like, we just don't realize it half the time so it shouldn't any real issue to read a printed comic book. Depending on the creator work can be more art focused then text [fast paced stories tend to be more quick energy filled drawings and limited dialogue and more sound effects], very text heavy and limited art [more detailed plots/slower storylines] or very much a 50/50 split.

Quit bitching, TokyoPop helped open the English-speaking world to manga proper.

What you wanna complain about are IRISH prices.

Was in France, and not only are their manga sections larger than most dedicated sections for anything in Irish bookstores, but it's €5-6 per volume; i.e. they're paying online prices IN THE SHOPS.

A number of companies have been publishing manga before Tokyopop they just didn't expand as quick as Tokyopop and as a result Tokyopop are having serious problems now. They've also gained a rep for being sh!t to work for both as translators and as creatives. Several friends have worked on some of their OEL titles and weren't impressed with their treatment compared other publishers out there. They have really dodgy contracts.

You really can't compare Irish prices to france when it comes to comics....comics are huge in France and there's a massive market for both french stuff and foreign. Bigger population, bigger market, cheaper product. It's alot easier to get comics into stores in France then Ireland, here you've only three options go via Easons wholesale, go through Diamond or go via a uk wholesaler. All those options result in higher costs and comics are a niche market here and even if they were as popular as they are in france we just don't have the over all population to make it worth any publishers effort to focus on Ireland as a market..

I much prefer manga to anime. It may sound contradictory, but I feel more involved with manga.
I buy mine at The Book Depository

Very reasonable prices, especially for older volumes, plus free delivery.

Not contradictory at all....with tv and films you just have to sit there and watch but with comics it's interactive cus in order for the story to move forward you have to physically turn the page and the way the story is drawn should guide your eye from one panel to the next and the speed it moves should be controlled by the art [lots of panals, loads of detail/text, size of gutters etc makes your eye move slower, splash pages, loads of action, limited text makes your move faster]. Can sound a bit silly to some but the best creators out there are the ones that are aware of this and really think about their page layout and how your eye is guided around each page and how it moves from each to the next.
