I am wondering if there is a minimum age a child can start training with a local GAA club? Is there an insurance issue below a cetain age?

Not really but it depends on the club. A lot of Juvenile clubs depending on numbers may have an Under 8 team. Best thing is to contact your local club and find out.

Usually its 5 or 6. Depends on the kid though. My eldest started playing football & hurling at 5. No interest in hurling and dropped it but went back when he was nearly 8 and loves it. My youngest tried football at 5 and had no interest and now is nearly 7 and just started again and cant get him away.

A lot of kids at 5 are still very shy. No harm in trying them out.

Usually they dont start playing matches til they are 8 and the club should have a registration process for all kids that will cover insurance, etc

It depends on the club, if they have the coaches to look after an u6 team.

Our Club have an under 6 group for 5 & 6 year olds and we insist on parents staying about for the hour, although I know my own niece goes and she hasn’t turned 5 yet - it depends on the kid alot!
They don’t actually play football until under 8s, they just have a load of fun& games, races etc.
