1 big reason why I've always had huge respect for the Lost writers. They have no problem killing off people when they become surplus to requirement no matter who they are. So many shows where they get beyond their first season and they struggle because the cast of characters don't really suit the main story anymore. You have people doing stupidly uncharacteristic things or worse hanging around doing nothing. BSG, 24, Prison break all come to mind.
I think there has been much less of that in Lost.

    Sorry that's bull:
Teri in 24 season 1, President Palmer, Renee
and plenty more have died unexpectedly. If anything 24 killed too many characters! Also in Prison Break, it was a surprise when the first main woman character died, as well as
    Schofield dying in the finale

I did put a disclaimer in the final line ;) (I do agree about Kate)

3 words. Kim Bauer cougar. She should have never appeared in
    Seasons 2 + 3.
Palmer should haven't appeared in s4 although they did get rid of him epically in the end. Wayne Palmer as president...the worst plot decision I can remember in my life.
Although 24 have been far better than Prison break. Most of the s1 cast should have been ditched by season 3. They just hung around in season 3+4 for no particular reason. It was absolutely terrible.

They always kill off the good characters. Charlie and Mr Eko being a prime example.
