    Hi,
My mother was recently advised by her aib financial advisor to invest in an aib equity managed fund. She has agreed to invest 200e a month in this equity fund. As she had done no research on this product, I suggested that aib advisors will try to sell aib products and that this maynot be the optimal product for her. She has now asked me to look into this.

Firstly, where can I get comparative information about past performance of Irish funds and the costs of these funds

secondly, can anyone advise on the better performing funds, and is aibs funds in this category.

    Thanks in advance
    regards
    laura

while im certainly no expert , i can point to my own mums experience with irish life funds , they were a complete dud , better to buy direct shares than invest through a fund , fund managers dont research where they stick your money well enough , they just throw **** at a wall and hope it sticks , remember , they get thier fees regardless of whether your fund performs or not , my mum had money in equities , commodities , stocks etc with irish life , during a period ( mid 2007 - mid 2008 ) when commodities were absolutley booming , her investment never gained a penny , the fund manager obviously stuck the money in crappy run food companys , mining companys , etc

as i said , better buy direct shares , investment funds might seem hassle free , unfortunatley , its a stranger ( possibley not even in this country ) who is playing with your cash and thier asleep on the job half the time
