    Hi there,

I wonder if anyone has done this course and if so, would they recommend it? In particular, it would be great to know how successful you and your classmates were in getting employment in the industry.

    any advice much appreciated

I didn't do it myself, but I was considering it last year, and some of my friends ended up doing it starting in september 2008. They thoroughly enjoyed the course, but one or two are now regretting their decision to do it. The have become disillusioned with it now that they are out in the real world. One of them, who has been a huge fan of books and writing for the entire time that I've known her (over 10 years) and she says that when she is around other people working in the industry, she doesn't feel cut out for the job. She recommended to me to only do it if you are REALLY passionate about the topic. As for employment, all the people I know who graduated from the course last October are now doing unpaid internships to get into the industry, and apparently that is the done thing. One needs experience in the field in order to get a paid job, and the experience must be in a publishing company. Apparently the bits that they did for local/university papers and magazines wasn't good enough. And for the unpaid internships, some, including one of my best friends, had to go to London! The only perk to the job is they are each given like 6 books a week to take home. She is living with other folks that she works with and the house is like a library already, and they have only been there about 6 months!
