    HI there

I'm changing my holiday plans and am planning to spend them in Ireland. I am looking for suggestions of where to go and where to stay. I'm from Clare so looking for places outside this county! I was thinking of Donegal - have never been there before so think it's about time. After that though anywhere in the country - I'll be making a few different trips hopefully.

    Thanks!

Dingle is my favourite place in Ireland. Love the atmosphere, the colour, the food and the people.

Dingle was one of my thoughts too! Any recommendations on where to stay?

Dingle depends on your budget. It can be expensive because its the pot o gold for Americans.

I normally stay in the Skellig for work but I know it can be expensive at weekends and stuff.

I would consider driving from Kerry along the south coast, through Kenmare, towards Cahersiveen, back along the coast into Bantry, over through Sheeps head drive, into Cork for a bit of city break, onwards through Cobh(don't overnight, nothing much there), into Dungarvan and stay maybe in Tramore. From Tramore you can head up to Waterford, Kilkenny, Cashel, Tipperary(through the Glen of Aherlow) and you're nearly home then.

What about West Cork? Was down there for a few days a while ago, stayed in Bantry and drove all around West Cork from there. Beautiful place :p

    You should visit Dublin
Its one of the few places in ireland that is of interest and attracts large numbers of tourists from around the world every year
The best weather in Ireland is in dublin and there is a great mix of city and countryside close by too
Dublin has the best transport system, restaurants, museums, history and diversity

Id pretty much skip everywhere else in Ireland except maybe a trip to the wicklow mountains or a short jaunt down to bray on the dort

Was in Dingle last spring and my god the place is expensive, so much so that random people came up to us and asked was the rest of Ireland so expensive!

Rent a cruiser on the shannon and stay wherever you want,300km of waters to cruise, and a different view every day.SERIOUSLY its great fun with lots to do,we love it and the kids wouldnt have anything else.

I did this with the lads. Great fun and down by Lough Derg (where I live nearby) is absolutely beautiful.

    Can be pricey though.

Donegal - it's being a while since I was up that neck of the woods but if you have a few days for touring then head for Donegal, I'll never forget the view as I came over the brow of the hill that over looks Glencolmcille.

The salmon in Carriggart Hotel was to die for.

While Kerry and west Cork are as beautiful they are closer and doable on day or overnight trips so Donegal would be my choice.

Killarney and Cork areas are just fabulous! Ultra-scenic! I think I have spoke of this before but our own islands - Aran etc. are absolutely fantastic too! Because the youth of today are so pre-occupied with the absolute life-or-death forces to go abroad, our culture and the scenery we have here, right here on our very own door-steps is not appreciated, nowhere near as much as it should be, and possibly because of this is very under-stated as a result, which, is a big shame considering the scenic wealth hidden not exposed in our native country.

Have you been up to the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland. Portrush/Portstewart - 2 nice beaches, golf course.

My favourite place but that's cos i used to live there

You should come to Westport in Mayo. There is so much to do there and loads of quirky little shops! It's only 15 mins away from Castlebar where you can do loads of shopping too.

Yea Donegal is a good option. I suggest Aran Mór island. Its a crazy place, beautiful little island out in the Atlantic, with a good few pubs.

I second that - West Cork is stunning, lovely places to go and things to see, and you can drive through Kerry on the way if you want to take the scenic (long) route :D
