    I'm slightly confused about this.

You are convicted of murder and sentenced to life - you are released after 14 years or so.

I thought that was it, but a friend has just told me that a life sentence has certain effects over the rest of your life. He couldn't tell me what those were though.

    Anyone know?

Sorry - Another thread that has been done to death.

    14 years if you're lucky.

Your issue: Release on license only, with option for authorities to return you to the chokey box at any stage.

Next question will be remission: It is usual that 1/4 of the sentence will be remitted for good behaviour.

There no 'hard and fast' rule on that 14 year principle.

Maybe an FAQ on questions like this should be done up?

There are a few threads in which you've said an issue has been done to death.

Or maybe people could use the search function and read through them ...;)

PS: FAQs is a good idea, but the FAQs would be lengthy.

The thing is, a lot of people come on this forum and don't realise that an issue might have been done to death and thus don't think to use the search function.

A compromise might be to sticky a list of issues/discussions that have been covered and explain which search terms to use...

Follow up question - what if you want to leave the country? Are you able to just walk away.
