Problem connecting Hero to public Wifi

    Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone has come across this and can offer any advice. I'm trying to connect to a secure wifi connection that my phone can see and recognises as being WEP protected. Now I have a password, I.e a 6 number password that has been generated by the owner of the network but only seem to get the option to enter the WEP 26 digit passcode. Is there anyway around this where the password can be used instead? A mate had no problem connecting on an iPhone so a bit frustrating if I can't.

    Cheers, Doc

Your friend has probably given you the ASCII code for the password. You need to input the 26-digit Hex code though, so you need to convert from ASCII to Hex.
You should be able to do so following the instruction (and theory) here:

Nah, its just a regular 6 digit password (letters actually). You know when you set up a wireless you can set up a password for people to join as opposed to having to input the WEP hexidecimal.

It`s just the option to input a password I can´t see as once the Hero sees the WEP protection it seems to look for the hexidecimal password. Public networks in hotels and the like will not generally give out the WEP but just give a password.

^ Do what he said ^. The password you've been given is just an ASCII equivalent of the hex code. Convert it to Hex and input it.
