I just feel that the world has become a terrifying and alien place where everyone is just getting hurt all the time and there's no escape. I just want to go back to the way I was but don't know how?

What's got you feeling like this?
    Did something happen ?

Do you have a counsellor to speak with?

Recently been through a sudden life-threatening illness which had slim chances of survival which after pulling through still held high health risks, Fortunately have recovered well with a minor disability yet I can't stop thinking about the people that haven't been so lucky and worry for them, can't listen to the news anymore it really distresses me..just feel hopeless with life.No haven't spoken to a councilor.

Well, congratulations on making it through. Sounds like you are a pretty empathic person, and may have given yourself some 'survivors guilt'. Counseling could definitely be a good idea.

But also, it sounds like you've been given a chance to grow. Instead of pining for 'innocence lost' so to speak - look forward to shaping yourself into a new iteration.

What do you work as, how do you spent your time? Yes, there's a lot of hurt and suffering in the world, but there's also a lot of people whose hurt and suffering are immeasurably improved by other people. You could look into a career change into a field where you feel you are helping people, and/or even volunteer locally to do some good.

Yes, it's a drop in the bucket, but it can affect individual's lives, and yours.

Definitely go to counseling as well though - as going into such fields (or even volunteering) without being able to set personal limits (ie you can't help everyone) will be exhausting.

Thanks so much cafe-colour, your advice is really good and true that I can't help everyone, and that this could be a chance to grow, still only in college but have decided that I would like to help others in the future:) thanks again much appreciated:)

I've been going through a bad spell lately, more of an emotional roller coaster rather than what you've been through but I think of a quote from Winston Churchill when I'm a little down in myself which reads...

''If you're going through hell, keep going''
