    England v USA
    Italy V Paraguay
    Argentina V Nigeria
    Holland V Denmark

    7.8/1

Paraguay will get a result against Italy

i followed Paraguay in the south American qualifiers and only for injuries they wouldve probably gotten 1st position

they are a very good side

I would fancy Uruguay against France :pac:

na this is the one I would be looking at

    South Africa v Mexico 13/10

south Africa are absolutely crap, the only thing they have going for them is the home support but home support can only go so far

England are a different kettle of fish under Capello, They'll win by at least 3.

In the opening match in the 2002 World Cup they drew 1-1 with Sweden and in the final group match drew 0-0 with Nigeria.
    .

Is this really relevant to this years World Cup though? 8 years later with a different manager.

Here's the England match squad for the Sweden game in 2002:

England: Seaman, Mills, Ashley Cole, Ferdinand, Campbell, Beckham (Dyer 63), Scholes, Hargreaves, Heskey, Vassell (Joe Cole 74), Owen.

Subs Not Used: Sinclair, Fowler, Brown, Martyn, Bridge, Keown, Southgate, Sheringham, Butt, James

Only Ashley Cole is even in the squad for this World Cup that I can see.

Edit: Sorry, Ferdinand and Heskey too.

The U.S. will do England big time ho ho

tbh i don't see how englands previous world cups are relevant. capello is a top class manager and england SHOULD walk that group. i won't be betting on any of the opening games no matter who is playing, you never know what team will come up big. after the opening group games you then have at least some basis of form to go off.

What's relevant is their history in the group stages of recent World Cup's and that's what I was pointing out. I suppose it says it all really when that's the only piece of the post that's arguable.

It's quite possibly the most important part of your post. Two completely different teams. England have a far better manager now, Better players and the USA are an extremely poor team despite the Confederations Cup form. England will get rid of them easily.

North Korea to concede the most goals in the group stages at 2.5 seems good.

Lads the group winners always throw up a few surprises and I wouldn't put anyone off going against Italy and France. They were poor in the qualifiers and don't be shocked if they don't even make it out of their respective groups.

I don't think France will qualify, tbh. Media hype surrounding the hand ball is inevitable and Mexico and Uruguay are good sides.

Five or sixfold is the way to go on the groups. May bet for the favourites and Mexico and Paraguay instead of Italy and France.

Sounds good SantryRed, have you studied the form of the teams in each group? Who do you see winning their respective groups?

World Cup is a different ball game lads, the big teams, even if they arent playing well, usually scrape through. France and Italy were nothing special in 06 yet they did extremely well as did an ordinary German side.

I know its irrelevant to go on past form but I still think France will go through, but I wouldnt be backing their matches as they could end up with 2 draws. A French draw against Mexico looks promising though.

I wouldn't be surprised if Italy qualified either, even though they are a very average side.

    .

Do you not remember the 2002 World Cup in Japan!? Many big teams failed to get out of their groups and even more failed to get past the knock out stages. I think both Italy and France are too old and France don't respect their manager anymore. I'm not saying they wont get through their groups - I just can't see them winning them.

Nor am I, I wouldn't be surprised if Italy and France qualified was my point. I don't think they are good sides which I already said but we will wait and see.

I think the handicap draw is going to be in effect for me a lot during the WC. Can see a lot of the top seeded teams scrapping by with 1 goal wins. 5 and 6 folds may seem easy enough on paper when picking the favorites but i garauntee you that there will be at least one upset in your accumulator. Doubles at most is all i think i'll go for.

Haven't done lots of looking into it. With the LC I don't have much time but i'll pick a day to properly study my bets for the WC.

Thinking maybe a fivefolds on Mexico, Argentina, England, Germany, Holland, Paraguay and Brazil to win their respective groups. Not sure yet though, gonna see where surprises could happen, such as the US topping the English group.

Brings back memories - I did my LC 20yrs ago! in St Aidans CBS. You probably go there yourself seeing that it is not too far from Santry?

What about Mrs Lucas or Mr Hughes, and Mr Casey are they still there?

Don't underestimate South Africa. They have undergone a lot of changes this past few years to be ready for the WC. They've put together a new and more youthful team while keeping the main experienced players like McCarthy and Mokoena.

Good value in the opener v Mexico @ 11/10 on the DNB with the home support behind.

Watch out for Bernard Parker and Steven Pienaar.

8/5 on over 2.5 goals in the opening game is tremendous value btw. All the attacking talent on show and neither too competent in defense.

Ya agree on SA being under-estimated. Home teams have a tremendous record in World Cups, well when I say tremendous they always at least get out of the Group and often get to the 1/4's. South Korea and USA were dismissed before their respective home World Cup's and they both over-acheived due to the home support. I think Uruguay are a bit over-rated and dont see them doing much at the WC. I dont know anything about Mexico but are normally a solid outfit but I think France and SA will progress from Group A.
