Family holiday in South of France/ Northern Spain this year. ( I suppose I had better bring my bike.;))

Anybody got any recommendations for self catering accommodation. Basque country/ Navarra preferred but quite open to ideas. 2 adults/2 kids.

Have had a good look online but I think you really need personal recommendation for this.

Campsites in Spain/France are generally fantastic. They are also quite cheap. Quite a few we saw had cabins that could be rented too.

Depending on the time of year, they can get quite busy though, so you may need to book.

Agreed. Just don't want to do the campsite thing this year...looking for a house/apartment away from the touristy things. thanks for reply.

Not self-catering but I met Paddy from Velopeloton while doing the Raid. Nice guy. He has a place very well situated for some of the most famous climbs. Bear in mind that many of the really famous climbs from the Tour are located on the French side of the border.

In terms of location either Saint Savin or a larger nearby town of Argeles-Gazost are ideal bases.
They are situated in a cross-roads to the iconic climbs. Hautacam and Tourmalet due east. Aubisque and Solour due West. Luz Ardiden due south as well as Pont dEspagne.
To the north you have the beautiful valley around Juncalas and the killer climb to the Courette before heading to Bagnere and approaching the Tourmalet from the other side.

I passed thru Arles but stayed near Bagnere. We were too far out of the way. When I head back I would like to be closer to the action so I would stay in SaintSavin or Argeles-Gazost.
