Strange hubs, the wheels are not dimpled, so they are pre-05, the hubs do not have carbon end caps, so they are not 02-04 models. They are not black either, so not 00-02 model either. They do look similar to the 98/99 model hubs. Or are these customs built on a zipp rim ? Some strange lighting on the rear rim, looks like the carbon surface is kinked. I presume thats a trick of the light though.

I bought them off a club mate last year and thats how they were described will take them down while I check them further .....

The 2nd pic is strange alright I'm sure its a trick of the light. Was taken in the hall at about 2 in the morning

No need to take them down ! They are a very fine wheel and I am surprised they are not already sold. To me they look like 98/99 model year - not a bad thing, they are more or less the same as the ones that came after, if anything the hubs would be more durable than what has come since.

Zipp make their rims available for sale seperately so sometimes you can get a zipp rim on e.g hope hubs. Again not a bad thing, I find Zipp hubs great to roll, but fragile. So much so that I was looking to have my 03/04 models built onto a more robust hub.

I know the Hubs they are 03 to 04 alot of Zipp rims were built on Hope hubs and they are defo hope hubs as i had a custom pair myself exactly like this.

I thought they looked distinctly like Hope hubs, if they are Zipps from 98/99 the outer part of the hub body will be black/carbon, cannot see that in the images, so likely Hopes. If they are a 03/04 model (and the rims look that way), then I would much prefer the Hope hubs over the zipp hubs from that model year. The hubs will be a tiny bit heavier but at least you won't have to dissassemble them every time you take them for a ride ! I know of a shop that was building the Zipp rims on those hubs at that time, looks like they used the proper Sapim spokes too. The 202/88 hubs that Zipp were originally providing with these wheels, complete with rattling carbon end caps held on with an elastic band were a disgraceful design.

Good luck with the sale Robfowl, I will let a few folks know about it. Had I not bought a new set of wheels myself just today I would have taken them away. Perhaps if they don't shift in the next couple of weeks and the price goes down I will have a look !

Rob, I believe these are 440s?

Was on to Zipp and they said there was no wheel set called the 440 simply that was a 56mm rim they produced.

There was a wheelset which was known as the 440, probably just referred to those rims built on stock Zipp hubs.

Either way I'd be pretty confident that's what those rims are.

edit: zipp told you the 440 rim was 56mm and yours are 56mm?

Had "not actually 404's on the ad but seem to have deleted it while editing."

    Zipp didn't tell me

They simply told me there was no such wheel set as the 440.

The rims may well be 440's but there according to Zipp there is no wheelset called the 440's

The link I posted mentions the 440 a few times, both as a rim and a wheelset. It suggests that the 440 was replaced by the 360 in 1998. Both were 58mm deep, but it looks like the shape was different. Current 404s tubulars still use a rim called the 360.

Stupid Zipp numbering conventions. They should name the rims after animals or something.
