So I am a mobile DJ. What are the Legalities in Ireland for this. My music is sourced from torrents..etc and is of high quality...etc but I'm afraid of getting done for this as I intend to expand My personal business in the coming months.. Can I buy a licence or something that will decrease my chances on getting fined? I can't remember the last time I bought a song/album except for the Haiti album because it was for a good cause..

    Anyway,

What else do I need to know so that I am fully Legal Mobile DJ?

The venue your playing in already pays and imro licence, so there's no need to worry about that!

Also, support artists who are technically putting food on your table, buy your music!

Ok cool but, to put it bluntly, All my music is FREE. How do they know if music is legit and bought from itunes....etc compared to just imported from folders from torrents into itunes?
Therefore me getting fined for pirate copies..

I dont understand how this/who even checks. Like what companies out there Sting people for non-legit music...? Its hardly the Gards lol..

and I dont understand your sentence on support artists. Me....support artist lol?...

Also I DJ at houses AND function rooms ..etc

Technically you could buy it and still be in the wrong. Downloads from iTunes and Beatport and disks bought from HMV and the like are all private use licences. AFAIK most vinyl is too. Technically you should be paying the same rates as radio stations etc etc but thats never gonna happen...

support the artists by buying their music. what you're doing is illegal and unethical.

you're making money off copyright theft. end of story.

The artist put a lot of time, effort and money in to making a track, it gets released, you should pay for it for the privilege of making money through playing it out!

Submit details of your music collection with the following and it will all be good, make sure to explain details of where you DJ/plan to DJ etc and outline your typical charges. Don't forget full contact details to include your contact number, address etc.

I'll put it this way. If its illegal to Download music from torrents, how do you legalise all your music that you have already?

    Support is a also verb.

Internet providers check IPs for illegal downloads. Eircom are bringing in a three strike rule.

Buy it all and keep the receipts, basically! Be it in digital or physical format.

    Ha.

If it were so illegal, surely they would have some organisation setup to stop all these torrents. Surely it's not that hard to shut down the Main websites that allow files to be shared. A simple "You share Illegal copyright material, Bye bye" and gone off the net..

Are you joking? You really don't believe it's illegal?

Eircom have already blocked access to thepiratebay. Napster was shut down.

Oh I know it's illegal, i didn't type that correctly but I'm just wondering why 'they' are finding it so difficult to get rid of.

It's 100% impossible to get rid of.

You're still a scrounging stingy miserly bastard if you get paid to play music that you stole.

1st off, who do you think is 'they'? There is no 'internet police', and although there are a few different groups set up, they're not international. One of the only ways to do it is in court, a la Napster, and seeing as there are so many different sites involved, and that it's so easy to start a new one, that's near to impossible.

There isn't a button labelled 'shut down site' at the bottom of every page, it's not that simple.
