Well I thought for a second it was a cougar but the recent TV show has shed a whole new light on that word! :D

I was also careful no to use the term "BIG" cat for fear it got miscontrued!

I'd say it is, there are definitely a lot of them around here.

I got mine online, have it a few years so it's not a new model. Have a Google, and search for my old posts here as I've mentioned a couple of good camera sites previously.

On that particular model, there is an energy saving feature. Basically means it needs a second or so to warm up for a shot, so while it's slower than other cameras, the batteries last for months. There are rubber seals around anything that opens so you can leave it out for as long as you like, just need to check the battery level and that the SD card isn't full. That one has been out for 5 months or so, but I didn't really check it and the batteries ran out. It's good if you know an animals run but you don't know what time it's around.

I've a couple out tonight in new spots. What I'm hoping to get is some video, that is a setting I had to read up on tonight so I can't change it until tomorrow. Needless to say my fox will pass that way tonight and not again for the next fortnight :D

look forward to the results, the cat fox and all seem to be sniffing after something, did you leave something to attract them or just place it where you could see tracks?

I had been lamping that farm and picked a section of fence where foxes seemed to come through, most getting shot mind you. I had a tin of tuna in my pocket, I walked half of the contents into the ground in front of the camera, so that's what they're all sniffing around at.

Good stuff as always john:)Im not at them much lately because of the cubs being young but starting to see large enough cubs flattened on the roads around my place so i might start the summer campaign fairly shortly....are you seeing much signs of cubs being active at all over your way yet??

Shot two good stumps of cubs there last week or the week before Mark. Other than that not seen a thing. Pretty much done with my foxing now for the summer unless there's a problem as it's getting dark too late for my liking now.

Is the flash a PIR or a strobe?

It's a PIR on that model, you can get flash models as well. There are a heap of pro's and con's to each make and model cameras, not a thing to rush in to buying IMO.

Great pics there john. Needless to say that fox is not long for this world. I would agree that that is one BIG cat.

How much would one of them "foto taking gizmos cost" roughly if you don't mind me asking. It would be handy for deer, getting numbers sex, age and condition etc.

I couldn't tell ya Paulo, got them probably 2 years ago. The price has likely come down a bit now. trailcampro and chasinggame I think were the two sites I read cover to cover. But, I also did a lot of searching for user reviews etc. Trust me on this, if you're interested in getting one then research a LOT. From brand & model to brand & model there will be different battery consumption/ability to hook up solar panel or battery/different detection angles/different trigger times/different quality in a lot of factors/etc etc etc....

Independent sites that provide good reviews and tests are worth their weight in GOLD. Also there are trail cam forums out there. For deer, if you had a lick or some feed around them the one I used above would be good as it has excellent battery life, and the deer would be hanging around so the delay in warm up time wouldn't be such a problem as it is for foxy.

Like i say, lots and lots of considerations.
