OK, three of the best TV series I've ever had the pleasure to watch from beginning to end:

The Wire - Fantastic realism in characters, writing & location. So many great episodes and quotes. Shows the fight against drugs and crime in general from both sides. Each season focuses on a different aspect of the drug\corruption riddled Baltimore.

The West Wing - Consistently brilliant quick fire script coupled with excellent cast. The thoughts of anyone else in the role of Jed Barlet other than Martin Sheen is just not right at all! Perfected the concept of walk n' talk which is used ideally throughout the halls the the white house.

The Sopranos - Episode after episode is pure class. Every character in this show is well defined and explored. The constant stress and everyday pressures put on principal Tony makes conpulsive viewing.

Vote which is your favourite and discuss why you chose it...!!

Which is best of these top series... 44 votes

I've never seen any of The Wire so cant comment at all on that but the season or two of Sopranos that I saw never grabbed me like West Wing. One episode of that and I was hooked whereas Sopranos while good just never had me looking for more. As splashthecash mentioned some of the cast in West Wing like Martin Sheen were just fantastic and you really couldnt beat them.

They are my three favourite tv shows ever. Making me choose one is just not fair. Hold a gun ro my head and I would have to say 'The West Wing', because there is no other show that explores the world of politics and makes your hair stand on end with it's inspirational rehtoric delivered flawlessly by Martin Sheen in the best role he's ever played.

I've only seen The Wire and The Sopranos, couldn't really get into the West Wing.

In my view The Sopranos just edges it between those two.

I love the Sopranos so much so had to vote for it. Never watched it on TV (I can never commit to a series) but I was sharing a house with some dudes, we had no TV and got the first sopranos box set.
Within the next 4 weeks we had watched them all and were at a loss when we had no more to watch, though we were extremely disappointed with the first half of the last series.

Haven't seen the wire yet, havent got a decent connection to download and cant afford the full boxset (so if anyone has an offer pm :D)

Haven't watched West Wing... Went with the Wire, but The Sopranos is very close...

    The Wire for me...

I haven't seen West Wing but it'd have to go some distance to top either of the other two.
The best thing about the Wire is that that they didn't assume the viewer was stupid and explain everything to us.
I felt the Sopranos lost it's way at times.

    The West Wing for me.

I actually didn't get into it until it was over. My college housemate had the first two season boxsets so I started watching then. From the first time you see Bartlet at the end of the pilot, I was hooked.

Season 5 of the Wire lost its way too though in fairness. I voted for teh Wire but boy that was a tough decision.

The West Wing is just outstanding, what an insight into Politics and very educational whilst maintaining its TV drama status. Actors in it are fantastic too, particularly CJ & Toby I'd say.

Sopranos is pure Gold, its so funny too as well as being cool. Just don't be hungry watching an episode.

Season 3 & 4 of the Wire will never be beaten so for that reason it gets my vote. It has the political insight of the West Wing [with far more realistic cynicism] and the comedic value of the Sopranos in places.

    Tough call though.

Loved The West Wing and The Wire. Fantastic shows! Both better than The Sopranos imo.

    Ugh so difficult to choose.

West Wing was perfect upto season 4/5 then declined. The Wire was perfection for it's whole run so on that basis i had to vote for the wire

For me it's the Wire hands down. I've just finished the Sopranos and while it was enjoyable it didn't have the whole complexity and interweaving of various story arcs and characters that the Wire had. It had too many patchy episodes and story lines that had no bearing or affect on the series as a whole.
