my current phone just bit the dust so i am going to take the plunge and buy a hero. i have been looking at an android phone for a while and now i can finally get one, im excited.
the only problem is i am a three pay customer and the phone i am looking to buy is locked to meteor. how do i unlock the phone? do i just ring up meteor and ask for the code or does somebody out there already have it?

    thanks for the help!

I may be wrong but i think all HTC Phones are Sim-Free (Or Factory Unlocked) on Meteor. I could be wrong but my Legend was!

thats what i thought but then i was wondering why would somebody go out of their way to turn away customers by saying it was locked to a network if it wasnt. to me that just doesnt make sense.

if somebody could give me a 100% positive answer as soon as possible it would be a great help. i dont have any phone at the moment and i will have to wait a day or two for the postage of the hero so the sooner i know if i can unlock it (if i even need to) the better. thanks!

When I bought my Hero from Meteor I was told by the chap that all their Hero's are sim free.

Even if the Hero is locked, it only takes 10 minutes and costs 10 euro to get it sorted on Ebay.

I have a hero from meteor, I put my 3 sim in it and it worked fine, you will need to change the apn settings for web access / data and the like but they are available on your mobile service providers site.

I was wondering whether HTC Android handsets came unlocked by default or whether it was just the first batch of handsets that are like that.

From people's experience on Meteor, have any of the HTC Android handsets, e.g. Hero, Legend etc, been locked to Meteor or has everyone's handset, as far as they're aware, been unlocked?

    My Desire was unlocked...

But then again I was (Apparently) the third person to buy it in the entire country :pac:

So you might fit into the "first batch" category that I've heard so much about. :P

How are you finding the Desire? I haven't read that much about it, as it doesn't interest me due to it's average camera and video capabilities, but from the little I have read, it appears to be a very quick handset.

Absolutely brilliant, it has a great camera if you're taking photos. Sharp and clear. It's not as great for videos though, variable FPS and can look a bit blurry.

But all in all besides the video recording, there is simply no better phone than the Desire out at the minute (Or near future *cough* iPhone 4G ;))

Same here with my desire. Unlocked, and first person in the county...

Glad to hear you're enjoying the handset. Did you use to have an X1?

Nope, the only Sony Ericsson that I ever owned was a C510. Hated it :pac:

Ah right; I've gotten you confused with another Boardsie so! :P

Well, its looking good for HTC Android handsets being unlocked by default. Hopefully it stays that way, as it's a great selling point for anyone interested in these handsets.

    Better than Apple ;)

Finding a factory unlocked iPhone is nigh on impossible for under 2x their regular price ;)

I know what you mean, however, there are the odd few that have been on Adverts recently a decent price. It will be funny when the iPhone 4G is released because, even though it will have many features in common with current handsets, people will no doubt think of it as the second coming.

One thing I like about Android, which has nothing to do with its functionality, is the codenames that are given to the different versions; I love desserts! lol

    Which sounds more fun?
    FroYo or iPhone OS 4.0

    No brainer really :D

It was me who had the X1! I have an iPhone and Desire now. Desire wins hands down.
