Billboard Ad complaint - near naked woman

Was driving today and nearly crashed.

Saw a huge poster of a lucious woman half naked pouting at me from a large advert hoarding.

Damn she was attractive - even the other half had to admit it was sexy and could cause an accident.:D A mile or two later, another poster with the same thing.

Shocking - I went to investigate the advert and found it was a totally false image being portrayed.

I think the press should be outraged. The loudmounth in the Dublin Rape Crisis centre should be making public statements about these adverts.

yet no a peep from anyone - nothing from Matt Cooper or even George Hook. Total silence from the Sunday Papers

Absolutely dreadfull it is. Even herself went to investigate and found that

#1 - no staff member in M&S looks anything like the person in the advert

#2 - After buying the advertised bikini, herself, whilst looking good, did not remotely look like the image portrayed in the advert.

    :p:p:p

Maybe they need to put a rugby byline on the advert?

The only logical complaint is complaining that there isn't enough of them!

Ah yes, the H&M ads. Clearly we don't get weather like that in Ireland.

I saw the same bill poster ads you are on about. Was wondering if there would be the same uproar as the Hunk Dory ones.

But it is an ad for M&S bikinis though and might not really be a sex sells kinda scenario.

It's hard for M&S and H&M to sell underwear and bikinis without showing...underwear and bikinis.

It's hard for Hunky Dory to sell potato crisps without showing...

Wow just $4.95 for that lovely bikini top.
    I'm tempted.

I'd make a complaint about a Billboard Ad with a near naked woman too.

My complaint would be that she wasn't fully naked

My only complaint about the H&M ad is that every time I see those billboards featuring happy women frolicking in the sun and splashing through warm turquoise water, I am reminded that I no longer live in Miami, but rather...Dublin.

    Sigh.

As one poster put it pics or GTFO..

failing that...I will settle for a picture of your gf in said bikini ;)

I would stay in Dublin forever if there was just one month (ok, two) out of the year where I could wear sandals and tank tops every day, spend the evenings on my patio barefoot with no jacket, and spend my weekend camped out in the yard with cold beer and BBQ.

In the meantime, as I trudge to and from work in the rain, I will pass the H&M billboard and think of the palm trees, mojitos, and cafe con leche that are so far, far, far away...

bollocks. define hard. if they can sell much more with hot women they have just as much right as a bikini ad.

for those who did not get the sarcasm of the OP.

3 weeks ago, Hunky Dory's launched a billbord campaign with a few nicely endowed women dressed in rugby gear and all hell broke loose - every newspaper, TV bulliten, radio show had comments about it as did all the women's groups & the dublin rape crisis centre.

Last week Marks & Spencer launched their summer swimwear campaign - If I were a young boy and was looking for a poster for my bedroom wall, I'd pick the M&S poster well ahead of any of the Hunky Dory posters as the woman is far better looking, far more seductive & revealing far more to the eye.

Yet not a peep from anyone about it?

Why? - Because M&S would tell them to eff off and the media would be afraid of losing a huge advertiser.

Well there's also the argument that H&M sell bikinis (apparently that's all they sell during the summer:D) and Hunky Dorys only sell crisps. So H&M have the god given right to display bikinis on billboards while Hunky Dorys should only display a fried spud. Apparently our advertising should only have the product that the company is selling now. It would make for some really boring ads.

The H&M add is necessary while the Hunky Dorys add objectifies women.

I'm sure Joe Duffy will be on the case.

*I'm putting the argument down because it exists. I don't agree with it at all.

Everyone got it. It was just a weak attempt at sarcasm. But thanks for filling us in and missing the reason why people objected to the Hunky Dory's ad.

Nonsense. There haven't been complaints because nobody finds a woman in underwear objectionable when she's in an ad selling underwear.

There's a little thing called context. It's not all some big conspiracy by "d'meeja".

The beer companies would be fecked then...

Good point actually - there don't seem to be complaints from women's groups about lingerie ads, which can be just as provocative as the Hunky Dory one. The "Hello boys!" one was really sexual - I don't remember controversy surrounding it, apart from admiration talk.

Some women's groups in the US complained about the Victoria's Secret "fashion" shows, saying they were "soft porn". Frankly if you are going to complain about Victoria's Secret, it should be about the fact that their bras are generally ugly and overpriced, and the underwires break loose and stab you in the boob after three washings.
