I'm not really happy with the current course i'm doing. Is it still possible to switch after 1 year and can i use the results of my current course or do i have have to use cao points? Would i be in any better position to wait? If i leave after 2nd year (it's a 4 year course) i get a higher cert (level 6).

Really depends on what you are switching to. I know people in UCC who have switched course after a year to a related course (Mainly from BIS to Commerce and vice versa) even though they didnt actually meet the points requirement the year they sat the leaving. If you are switching to a completely different field then i think your leaving cert points are what count
