when i open a new track i open one mono intrument track, then i open my boom then i make the patterns right i change from notes to region view then i make sure my grid is turned on and that i have 1 bar notes

i try put the patterns in but der so out of time and in between the bars and i have to click them in manually unlike the video where he just clicks the box where the bar is and it plays one of his patterns he has made?? could some one help me out ??

When you say the patterns are 'out of time' what do you mean?

Are you trying to put a beat over audio tracks you've already recorded? If so, were they played to a metronome, and is your session tempo correct?

    sorry man

a click was set and then i opened boom so everything was being played in time what i meant was the when i go to put my set patterns down to play with a track i have recorded (bass) but when i have everything the way i sed in the OP , i have to draw the pattern in between the bars , the pattern is not put in between the bars like in the tutorial ill post a link now its towards the end

Ah, I think I get you now.

So the notes you write in don't trigger the pattern and you actually have to program it in in the MIDI edit window or whatever?

If I remember correctly, certain groups of notes will trigger your patterns, and certain other groups will trigger individual drum sounds. Try moving up and down the keyboard until you find the octave that plays your pattern. From the video you posted it looks like the third octave is what you should be using (so the notes you write in should be between C3 - C4).

Hopefully I'm not reading you wrong here.

yes thats kool i get that yes but in the video he clicks in a pattern which is c3 or something like that in the bars and the pattern plays but then in the next bar after that he has a pattern that is on say c3 and thats in th next bar ?? do you get me ?

the best way i could explain it is you like in ableton the way you click in your beats into the grid, you know the way in ableton you would put a bass drum into the but in stead of the one separate bass drum that would be a pattern in pro tools do you get me ??

Hmm... Never used Ableton I'm afraid.

Is the problem that the patterns aren't locking to the grid then? Are you in slip mode by any chance?

ye i think that frase u used is write its not locked em im not sure im in grid mode

Then you just need to select grid mode from the toolbar (beside the slip mode button in the top left corner of the edit window by default) and that should sort it.

    Did you get it working?

Right, let me just run though it real quick:

    - Create your pattern in Boom

    - Set the grid value to one bar (like in the tutorial)

    - Set it to display the grid (like in the tutorial). This won't actually put you in Grid mode, it'll just show and hide the grid.

    - Select Absolute Grid mode in the toolbar. (I don't think he mentions this step in the video. Go to 4:15 and pause it. Look at the top left corner of his edit window. See the little blue box? That means he's in grid mode. If that isn't highlighted in your session, your notes won't snap to the grid.)

    - Set your track to note view (like in the video). Now when you input a note with the pencil tool, it should be placed on the bar.

Just try going through the steps outlined above. It sounds like you're just forgetting to switch on Grid mode.
