    Hi

Can anyone help me out. For some reason my mail app wont work for a while now and i really need to get it back working.

I have tried reinstalling it with Pacifist, system updates, creating new accounts with no help at all.
When i click on the mail icon i got the "You cannot use this version of the application mail with this version of mac OS x " message

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks
    Ciaran

I assume you've tried repairing permissions.

What version of OS X are you on?

And what version is Mail? Go to Mail in the Applications folder and use Get Info to find out.

Where did you extract Mail from using Pacifist? The install disc? That would be an old version compared to the OS by now. You'd need to try extracting it from the combo update package.

Not quite sure what you mean here. But Mail's version number would definitely be contained in its Get info window. But maybe it's messed up.

Also, do a Spotlight search for "Mail" and see if any other copies of it pop up. There should only be one Mail application, and it should be in the Applications folder.

You can get the 10.5.8 combo update here. It's quite big. To be on the safe side I would recommend installing it. It should generally sort out problems like this. If that doesn't work you can try extracting Mail from it.

I'm back with some more issues.

I got mail up and running, now every time i open mail i get asked for my password and the same for when i try send a mail.

The second thing which is annoying me to is when i send a mail there's no copy of it saved in the sent items.

Anyone have any ideas on what may be causing this or how to fix it?

In my mail boxes i have INBOX, SENT, TRASH - On my mac and gmail.

    Cheers for the help

It's checking for mail but the password you gave it is either wrong or blank. When it asks for your password, enter it and check the "remember this password" (or whatever it says) box. Alternatively go into Mail menu > Preferences > Accounts tab > click on your account and change the password there.

I assume you are using IMAP, yes? If so, have a look in the Gmail box (click the arrow to expand it), it should contain another sent folder. If you want this sent folder to sync with Mail's sent folder have a look here:
