Hi.guys.I just got engaged recently and my fiance is going to get me a 1 carat diamond ring. I want it in F or G coulor, vvs, v good cut. I have not decide wether I want the round or pricess cut on platinum set. I am thinking about travelling to Dubai, antwerp or O'conor in dublin. but I also love the tiffiny ring too. Could anybody tell me why tiffiny ring is more expensive? Is it because it is better diamond or just the design? All dimond have GIA cert. Is that mean it does not matter where I go to buy it as long as they have the GIA cert mean that they are genuine? could any expert explain to me plzz.

I agree. How about compromising. I've seen .50 or .75 brilliant cut diamonds look alot more specticular than that of a 1 caret. I wouldn't worry too much about size, it's the sparkle you want. Then some people want size. :) Congrats.

Tiffany are more expensive because you are paying for the quality of the diamond, etc etc but mostly the brand name.

It's just like buying a leather handbag - you can buy high street or designer.

Dont buy in ireland. its way overpriced.
i got the missis a 1.01 GIA certed E with very good cut in Australia on hols. lets say it was worth X amount. We got it valued over here for three times the amount for the house insurance.
Antwerp is your best bet if you cant travel too far. What you'll save on price of the ring you can get a holiday out of it.
    USA is good as well.

    Congrats by the way!!

Hi.Guys. Thanks very much for you advice. But I think people like spend their money on different things. Someone like spend on drinks a lot every week. Someone like spend on cigaretts. If you count the amount of money that you spend every year. Wooo, you are going to surprise how huge is that. But for me, a diamond ring that I will wear it for the rest of my life and I like to buy the perfect one becasue it is going to last forever. Cigarette and drink wil pass out v quick. Isn't that right? ;)

    congrats on your engagement..
as with another poster, you want a lot but what you NEED to do is some research if you're going to spend some money on diamonds and while you seem to have the lingo (colour, clarity, cut), you seem to know little about your certifications, so you need to read up a LOT about diamonds.

I'm curious as to your spec: why do you want 1carat as opposed to any other size? why do you want VVS ( which by the way, is VVE - very very expensive for something not visible to the naked eye)
have you tried on any sizes/shapes yet? One of my friends has very small delicate hands and anything over 0.8carat just swamped her hands, so she went with a smaller stone

you should go shopping for a ring with a very open mind (but know your stuff, don't be fooled by retail shops, deal with a reputable jeweller) not with a set "i want x, y, z" because you're limiting your options

    best of luck:)

sorry it seemed in your first post that your fiancé was buying the ring, not you?
he won't get to wear it forever...

aviendha, thanks for your advice. I acepted your advice and I am open mind. I will shop around and see what suit me better. The reason that I want 1 carat or slightly bigger is because only 1 carat diamond will hold its value in the future. No? that is what I heard and our budget is around 5000 euro. that is why I have to shop around. well vvs and so on that was just something that I would like to push it to the best within our budget. It does not have to be exactly. thanks.

My finace is v happy to buy it for me and it is something that we can afford it without break the bank. Both of us not drinking or smoking. So I hope people respect us and not judge too much about too much money or what. It is personal choice. Some people are happy with small ring and some people are happy with bigger one. but as long as they are satisfied and they are happy with it. That is the most important thing. Thanks.

Oh I totally agree! I think drink and cigarettes are a complete waste of money. And it is right to pick the perfect engagement ring as you will be wearing it forever.

PS I think 1ct Tiffany costs about €6-7k. Check their website n it'll give you a better idea.

    Hey OP,

I'm not making judgements here, just an observation.. Your main reason for getting a 1 carat ring is so that it will hold it's value in the future. Presumably, an engagment ring is for wearing for life, and it's monetary value does not really mean anything in the future.

By all means, if you go looking at rings and you find a ring that suits you perfectly and you can imagine wearing every day for the rest of your life, and it is a 1 carat ring, then go for it. Bear in mind, you'll be wearing that ring when you're doing the housework, gardening, changing nappies, at work, etc. etc.

I'd also suggest that the engagement and marriage itself is much more important than the ring. When you go to book your wedding venue, pay for dress, and all the things that come with a wedding, you may re-think having spent that €7,000.

Just a few thoughts that you may not have considered before.

BTW, congrats on your engagement and enjoy the parties and celebrations.

rather then focusing on the material side, I'm just gonna applaud your boyfriend for taking the big step. you dont mention once about how happy you are to be his significant other, or where or how he proposed. good luck to him I guess, you seem fixated on the ring type and not the beautiful gesture the guy has expressed. youre watching far too much sex in the city id say. Oh will it be antwerp or tiffany??? you obviously dont know that much, you can't even spell Tiffany correctly. you spelled it wrong twice.

For what you want, I'm afraid your budget of €5k is impossible. I just checked on Bluenile and if you put in 1ct, F, VVS2 and very good cut the lowest diamond price is €7,200. And that's for the diamond by itself. You're gonna have to set your standards a bit lower.

Also you shouldn't be buying a 1ct because you think it will hold its value. Why do you need it to hold its value? There's no difference between a 0.99ct and a 1ct and a 1.01ct.

It seems you haven't noticed that this topic is specifically about her engagement ring, and not the engagement in general. I'd also suggest against commenting on people's poor spelling with poor grammar.

Sorry to go off-topic, OP. I don't know much about engagement rings, but congratulations on your engagement.
