Why do people say "Here, here" instead of the correct "Hear, hear"?

I don't know how you can hear the difference between "here, here" and "hear, hear". They sound the same to me...

Seeing as it's usually said rather than written (which is, I assume, where the confusion arises from in the first place), how can you even tell?

You wouldn't just be starting a thread to make sure everyone knows you know something would you?

Most people have pretty poor English skills, but I can forgive people for this one. :)

I would group it with grateful/greatful and bear in mind/bare in mind. Both are also tricky ones to remember.

    Yeah that's what I'm doing.

Because everyone in the whole world is on boards. I'm so happy that everyone now knows that I know something.

Why did you come onto the thread, just to post that? Fucking sick of people with their shit comments about the OP or what they think of a thread.

It wouldn't be half as bad only they think it's hilarious and not at all inane and annoying.
Here's a thought: if you don't like a thread, fuck off and don't bother reading it.

Why do poeple spell programme program? Or put question marks at the end of what reads as a statement rather than a query.

Same reason they don't know the difference between 'cue' and 'queue', or 'its' and 'it's', or 'their' and 'there' or any other hononyms.

They probably say that they 'done' that, they 'seen' that, as well.

What's more, they don't care, they don't want to learn, so there's no point telling them. We just know that they are badly educated and come across as unintelligent........but they don't care about that either, or would dispute it. So what?

Why do people post in After Hours instead of Spell Czechs or English?

    Never equate education to intelligence

For the same reason people write your instead of you're, there instead of their or they're, check instead of cheque, etc.
They don't understand that they're two different words
