Hi

What I'm looking for is a mascara that will give as close as you can get to a false lash effect, without actually using false lashes. I'm led to believe such a product may possibly exist because I'm a total sucker for advertising. I'm always buying various mascaras that look amazing in the magazines and on TV ... but are only OK in real life. I've been disappointed so many times!

Obviously this is for a dramatic occasional look, rather than for everyday use!

Price isn't really an issue, although as it happens, in my own experience, I've found most cheaper mascaras to be much better than expensive ones.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

I use Smashbox Lash DNA and it really appears to add volume and length without seeming clumpy. Stocked just about everywhere, I buy from Debenhams.

Haven't used the blackout one but Dior Show is the best mascara on the planet. I have been asked if I'm wearing falsies also!
(they've put the price up twee it's about €30 now...)

Bad gal lash by benefit comes in a very close second and I think it's about a fiver cheaper.

Just had a look on ebay you'd get the dior black out for less than 20 euro for a full size new one!

The benifit full size new is there for about 11 euro and only one or two quid postage too, I'm winning on one now and it's only at a fiver and ending in two hours so might be able to get them even cheaper.

I personally wouldn't buy make up on ebay as half of it is fake.

Anyway, I would recommend using the two-step mascaras. Use a mascara primer like Lancome Cils Booster Xl (it's white). Use two coats of this, letting each dry before applying the next coat. Then use two costs of Loreal Lash Architect. Here's my eyes when I do it properly:Photo0086_Small.jpg

Ebay doesn't work like that it's a very reliable way to buy stuff online, a sellers ability to sell is totally down to their reputation through customer feedback that you have to leave when you buy something and they take that very seriously. Also sellers are very regulated by ebay itself and would get in massive trouble for false advertising if they tried that they'd get reported in no time. I only know this because I used to be a seller myself a few years ago.

I'm sorry but that's very naive. I am well aware of how ebay works and it's dodgy as hell! Have a look at this recent thread on boards http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055856200. Have a google about it too.

I have bought fake Uggs and fake Mac make up brushes on ebay before, accidentally. It's full of fake Mac and Benefit among other brands. If I do a search for Mac on ebay.ie I can already see fake stuff on the first page of results.

Any chance of a link to the fake ones you found so I know what to look out for? I'm not saying theres no fakes on it but if you go for the buyers that are well established and full time professional sellers (not people just selling the odd bit of second hand stuff they don't want) and have consistently good feedback you should be grand. You should have reported that to ebay you wouldn've gotten your money back.

Thats nuts about the smell of petrol on that thread you linked dodge or what! Is the Dior likely to be fake or is it mainly Mac and Benefit?

They are, but there's so much MAC stuff listed that it's almost impossible to control.

OP - I recommend FiberWig mascara from Japan. You can build it up so it looks very like fake lashes but doesn't clump (well, it does clump the first few times you use it until you get the hang of it, same as with all mascaras that contain fibres). I get mine on eBay.

22 euro!

I use this one and it's my favourite. I've tried hundreds and none fill out and plump my lashes as much as this one.

I always use it with a eyelash curler that I've heated slightly for a more dramatic look

I use Rimmel Volume Flash x10 Extreme Black. Costs about €6 or €7. It needs a few coats but everyone comments on my eyelashes when I wear it (most of the time!).

Have a look at lolamarie7 on Youtube, she had a video on this. She uses another Rimmel mascara (Volume Flash The Max I think) which is supposed to be even more volumising than the one I use. She uses an eyelash curler (heated with a hairdryer) after using her mascara and her eyelashes look great.

I too have tried alot of mascaras. I cannot find a clump free one. Although thanks to a tip here I've started to put them into warm water and this seems to help.

The current Mascara which I am impressed with is Smashbox Lash DNA. It's more expensive than Max Factor but cheaper than Mac/Dior. So far I'm impressed but I've only used it a few times. It seems to make my lashes look alot thicker and denser which is what I'm after.

EDIT: Another great tip I've gleamed from boards - heat my eye lash curler. Cheers ladies!

estee lauder turbo lash is amazing but expensive 33 euro i think? mine cam with a free refill though so its technically two. there is a little vibrator in it that coats the lashes fully soit really pops. would also recommend an eyelash primer

L'Oreal Telescopic or Max Factor Masterpiece are the best two I've come across. Don't understand the fuss about Benefit Bad Gal, I find the wand bit much too big!

+1, I've never found Bad Gal to live up to the hype tbh!

L'Oreal Lash Architect and Telescopic are my faves. Here is how Telescopic looks on me, I wear mascara every day as my lashes are invisibly pale!

According to some of my cousin's who use false lashes, these mascaras are the only ones, which give the 'false lash' look.

No.7 Intense Volume Mascara
No.7 Extreme Length Mascara
L'Oreal Extra Volume Collagen Waterproof Mascara / L'Oreal Extra Volume Plus Waterproof Mascara /
L'Oreal Telescopic Mascara (I have this and I find it clumps - it could be just my lashes though as my lashes are long, thick and black)

I recently bought to Lancome mascaras and I find them good. Though, to be honest, I don't look for a dramatic/false look, so this info may not be of any use to you.

I'm a mascara junkie whore, and compulsively buy every new one on the market, and excitedly passed over the cash for this one. I'll never learn.

Its a nice mascara for daytime because its subtle, but if I was to use it for a night out, I'd have about six coats on before it even came close to say, Diorshow or even Masterpiece max!

Stay away from Rimmel Glam'eyes. It was an emergency buy, and is the worst mascara I've ever bought. It's really clumpy and I can't blink for 2 mins after I put it on or it'll end up all over my face. To the bin with it

I'm a hude mascara fiend and have found these to be my recommendations (cant remember any prices!)

1. Lancome Virtuose

2. DiorShow Black Out

3. Estee Lauder Double Wear

4. Guerlian mascara the double-sided one cant remember the exact name

1 - 3 would be real falsies look and the Guerlian one is great for getting every single lash lengthened and covered.

Def use a primer as well, I only found out recently they existed but all the 'scissoring' we do in putting on mascara damages the poor lil lashes.

Really?! I love it! I've used so many mascaras and it's just my favourite! I hate Benefit's Bad Gal for example, think it's rubbish! Different strokes for different folks, eh!?

if you see benefit with prices that low it'll generally be fake. There seems to be an awful lot of it on ebay these days - if its too good to be true and all that...

There are some reputable sellers on ebay though - you just need to be careful and do a bit of research

Helena Rubenstein lash queen, feline black.... bought this 5 yrs ago and haven't bought anything else since, its that good. Dior is also good but drys up quick. Available on strawberrynet.com
