if someone does ordinary level maths in junior cert can they do higher level maths in leaving cert.
all i found is a website that said many schools do not allow students do higher level in leaving cert if they have not got a c3 or higher in junior cert higher level maths.
is that all there is? or is there actual set rules that would not allow it

If it was any other subject I would say you can do it. If you do OL in the JC you are definitely not going to be able to do HL in the LC. All those who did OL for the JC in my school are either struggling in OL or have dropped down to FL.

well i was asked to give a guy grinds. and the school dropped him to pass recently. i'm gonna help him in the next week or two but i'd like to help him next year as well and get his standard up and have him acing higher level. but if there are rules that state he cannot do higher unless he did it in junior too then i'll ask him to do it in the junior and just get half marks or something.

There is no rules stating you can't do it. I am even doing it. If he can't do HL JC how is he supposed to HL LC. The only way it can be done is if he works very hard in TY at maths at the HL LC course.

Generally schools wont let him do higher unless it was a fee paying college, they usually would allow it as far as I know...

well i'd give him grinds next year too. or the year after. to get him to the standard for higher level would not be all that hard if he's got the interest.

It wouldn't be hard if he is willing to put the effort in and work his ass off at the subject during TY.

I got a B in HL maths in the junior cert and I'm failing HL LC maths even with work. Then again, I just despise maths. But if he/she is willing to put in some extremely hard work, there's no rules to say he/she can't. But it is very intensive and long.
