the back of the monitor has a neck board that is cracked so a bit of electronics needs to be done too....know anyone that does this ??

Hey If there is a crack on the monitor board its probably toast. post a pic of the chassis and maybe a new one could be sourced.

    Post a couple of pics.

There is a guy in the uk who repairs monitors and is very good at it.

    His site is giz10p.co.uk

Realistically it probably quite fixable without replacing but depends on the damage. I've had to patch up a neck board before and it worked fine.

Any idea which monitor it is?

A few of the guys here might have spares or be able to get hold of whatever you need.

Like Purplec said - a pic would be handy.

you could probably send the neck board to anyone with good soldering skills and they could fix it for you, I'd do it meself bu I wont be home till september.
Like the others said a picture paint a thousand words

I have one in the garage but it's running stargate. Problem with the monitor psu last time I fecked about with it - fried a few cpu boards on me. :(
Havent really had the time or interest to sort it out. Will probably still be there in the same spot for another few years too...

Was going to make a number of them - bought a number of control panels from the US a few years ago. Have boardsets for em too. The rest is fairly easy...:)
Project got overtaken with kids, space requirments, arse falling out of the market, laziness etc...

Sold my original defender and robotron cabs a few years ago - that was the nail in my arcade coffin I guess. (Something I said I'd never do). Funny how life/priorities/interests change.

You looking for one or got one for sale?

    I've a defender that I've half saved

Let us know if you've anything your willing to sell but I wont be back in the country for a few months(3)

here she is as I got her(except monitor removed and there was a control panel made from the original marquee :'( , lots of nice water damage, deep scrapes and black paint over the sideart NICE :(

shes looking a bit better these days but I still need to sort the wood around the bottom and get an original control panel/bezel/boardset for her

I'm aware I'm going to get slated for having that control panel on her and currently using it as a jamma cab lol

Really looks super. Well done on restoring it so far!! ;)

Nice to see I'm not the only defender nubjob about :D;)

My first defender cab was not dissimilar to your own when I got it - it was totally gutted and converted to SFII CE with the only original part being the cab itself and coin door (orig stainless from the first run of defenders - where they used pinball doors).

Sprayed totally black too and had a 25" TV installed... paahhhhh :)

It was a lifes ambition just getting one - restoring it made it all the better!

That's where I came across all my other arcade stuff (tons of pins and jamma games etc) - looking for the Holy Grail.:D

Have to admit - most came from the US - just couldnt get anything here. There's a few guys in the UK who are good for parts and boards - but as I'm sure you know - they aint cheap.:(

    I can sort ya with a Control Panel - 100% original - cigarette burns n all! :p
I dont have a spare bezel - but they're alot easier to get than control panels.
    There's one on ebay atm
    http://cgi.ebay.com/1980-WILLIAMS-DEFENDER-PLEXI-BEZEL-ARDADE-/110533332432?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19bc4ccdd0

Could probably sort a boardset for ya too.
Is the wire harness still in the machine or is it gone?

Probably best ditching the original psu if it still there - (I'm guessing it's long dead anyay if there's water damage).
A switcher will do the trick a-ok.

Keeping the game running will possibly wreck your head using orig boardsets. Worth the hassle imo but not worth the cost. With the benefit of hindsight and having spent a fortune on boards and bits etc - I'd say run it through mame with the orig control panel - (but somehow I reckon you'll want to do it the hard way):D:D:D yeaaaahhhhhh!!!

Give me a shout when your back.

    Love the stig btw.:D;)

Anyone with good soldering skills and a multimeter should be easily able to fix that for you
