Just wondering if anybody has entered Israel yet and how did you get on? How was the entry process? What country did you enter from? Spend long?

Also, did you travel on the old passport, i.e. the one with the colour photo versus the new one, the one with the seethrough black and white photograph?

I was there back in January. Traveled overland from Jordan (A country i highly recommend!). I used the Allenby/King Hussein Bridge. I was questioned for about 40 mins by the Israelis. Seems they do the dog on people who have stamps from countries they consider enemies (Syria, Lebanon,Iran etc.) Just keep cool and smiling and they'll be ok. I used the new passport. I asked nicely for them not to stamp my passport just in case I might ever visit Syria. (Response: "You want to visit Syria? with raised eyebrows!! ").Anyway she didn't stamp my passport. just a visa on a piece of paper. I loved Jerusalem. One of the coolest places I've been to. PM me if you need more details

Went there also from Jordan a few years back. I had already visited both Iran and Syria so the immigration lads took a special interest in me. They requested I write out every address I've ever lived at, every email address I've ever owned, phone numbers, etc.

They then kept me waiting for approx. 3 hours before letting me head onward (I was using Israel more so for transit through to Egypt than to visit it in itself which they didn't seem to like either)

A few days later I was on the phone home to my Mum and she told me she had a call from some Israeli security company asking her to confirm who I was. It freaked her out big time and I reckon it was bang out of order on their behalf.

But OP as long as you're polite and answer their questions truthfully and in full then you've nothing much to worry about.

I was in Jordan recently and didn't end up crossing the border (because of time constraints :() but did some research.

    This site
is a great resource on Jordan which includes a page on the practicalities of getting over the border.

You should also keep an eye on the political situation if you decide to enter from Jordan, because they can close the borders with very little notice. The border crossings near Aqaba is apparently a lot calmer than the King Hussein.
