Yeah, showing in the IFI this week anyway. Saw a trailer for it t'other day and it looks quite interesting, and very claustrophobic! Hopefully will get a chance to see it during the week.

Got to see this today, definitely an interesting alternative to standard war movie fare. I'll be honest - I'm not particularly up on my Lebanese war politics, so I was little lost on the overall context and parties involved. However, as a war movie it does a lot right, and a few things wrong. It is very much claustrophobic, pretty much entirely filmed in a tank occupied by a four person crew. This gives some startling point of view moments when the director is expertly able to capture characters reactions outside and the confusion inside by using the tank's scope as the only visual indication of what's going on outside. Some of the close-ups are painful, and the setting is one which really captures the tensions and uncertainties of the group inside.

There are one or two moments when it can be a bit heavy handed in the delivery of its messages, but overall I liked it - some terrifying set pieces (one where we can only hear the sound outside is particularly effective) and captures the confusion & moral uncertainty of war better than most. Still a bit ignorant of the context, but a solid film on the whole.
