Time limit on taking civil case for assualt

As the title suggests, anyone know what the time limit is for taking someone to court for compensation over assualt. They have already been charged and convicted for the assault. Solicitor says 2 years, but they did not get convicted till 2 years after.

It's 6 years for assault and battery. Maybe speak to a different solicitor.

Actually can anyone recommend a good injury layer in the greater Dublin area (if thats allowed?) very wary of cowboy solicitors, a no claim no fee type one.
