What is the story with all the slow drivers on tuam road today heading into town ??
Was heading in work and an idots driving at 20 km per hour and would not pull in, there was about 15 cars stuck behind them ??

When are these fools going to learn that slow driving is also dangerous as people get fed up behind them and over take dangerously ??

Get off the road if your not going to drive at a normal speed

Do you feel better now after your rant?
Just slow down, as they say "arive alive":D

Its all a matter of perspective. If you were all chilled out with nothing on your plate and in no rush anywhere, you prob wouldn't be too bothered about the delay today. But because our lives these days are all go go go, it doesnt take much to get the pee boiling. Whats the rush? Take it easy. Slow down, not just in your car, but in general. You'll live allot longer.

Our lives these days are not go go go. I don't understand where this saying comes from.

When people had to hunt for food, gather firewood, maintain their huts, fight off disease, fight for their survival every day ... that was go go go.

Nowadays we sit on our ass for the majority of the day and eat pre-prepared food.

Anyway, you don't have to be in a rush to want a reasonable pace on the roads.

Was the car at the front one of these....

well, there's reasonable pace, and then there's 'sitting in your boot while you're already breaking the speed limit'...Hate the latter...

But I do agree, people going overly slow and refusing to pull over where possible are a cause of dangerous driving and accidents...

Agree with the op, except I'm concentrating on the Headford to Galway road in my thinking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 365 ✭✭tonyhiggins

It's a reasonable complaint in my view. It's something you'd fail your driving test for, and for a reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 564 ✭✭✭Clemon

Ya i used to have this problem everywhere i went in galway, Now i just take the helicopter when i need to go somewhere and laugh at all the peasants below me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2 kemp

on the contenent france poland people pull in slightly if their slower than the car approaching from behind, i do this here as i wish to be more polite to pass on this great driving, but do not drive in hard shoulder with all four wheels as insurance does not cover u in accedent so only with 2 wheels, on the tuam rd this works on the headford rd youll end up cutting turf, pass on GOOD WILL DRIVING 2 OTHERS.

Its very annoying op. I find the non-motorway sections of the Galway to Limerick road especially bad for clowns doing 30mph. It takes long enough to get to Galway from Cork without getting stuck behind some ass who wont drive on or pull in.

That slow down and arrive alive rubbish drives me nearly as mad as the slow drivers. I can arrive alive without travelling at walking pace. Having done a lot of driving in the UK it would not be tolerated over there, they would be ran off the road. Slow drivers are more of a danger on the roads than competent driver who drive it on a bit.

What i hate is when someone is driving behind say a bus, and has no intention of passing them, so instead of holding back and leaving space between them and the bus if someone wants to pass, they (and maybe another car) drive tight up each others arse, so instead of passing a bus you now have to wait to it's safe to pass a bus an 1 (or more) cars!

Have witnessed so many near-miss, head on collisions because of frustrated driver's trying to overtake and also near-miss rear end collisions because of those overtaking having to squeeze back in to the queue of cars because someones coming the other way.

C'mon OP, the suspense is killing me - what was the car in front? You should set up a poll of the usual suspects then reveal the actual make and model in a day's time.
In no particular order of incompetence/inconsideration I'd say it was either
    a) 1.4 petrol corolla
    b) 1.4 petrol focus
    c) yaris
    d) vento/ old jetta ( some old lad with tufts of hair growing out his ears)
    e) early to mid nineties 4x4 with a trailer of very scared sheep

I presume you would have specifically mentioned if it was any other form of agricultural equipment (tractors etc)

Driving on the M50 yesterday and I pull into the left most lane and all of a sudden I noticed a car a few hundred yards in front of me and I swear at first it seemed like it was going about 30kph! As if it had just pulled off from a stopped position. Crazy stuff!

I've very very rarely been held up by one, they seem to stick close to their natural habitat of 50kph zones.

    * fanfare

    HYUNDAI ACCENT.........

Some drive slow because they think their speedometers are still in mph and not kph so when they think they are going 60mph they are in fact only doing 60kph. The other slow drivers go slow because their health ie eye sight reaction times etc are probably very poor.

Both these sets of drivers should not be driving so.

The middle lane on the M50 is a whore for slow drivers. Most people pass them on the inside.I don't blame them.

I find it funny how drivers immediately get into the middle lane as soon as they get on the M50. They literally do not have a clue.

Some signs would sort that.. There again it's possible these numpties wouldn't even notice them or care.

Ah yes the assumption that you drive a small car so your driving slow,

I get that alot due to the car I drive so people come up behind me and pull out to overtake then realize "oh **** he's doing 100km or 120km or whatever" and then can't overtake me in time so end up pulling in nearly causing an accident in the process

    Idiots

what about the 99 1.4 Astra that is so common because Opel sponsored the fai during that time so all boggers bought one:pac: the kind of people that driven them would be on the radio complaining about people driving faster that 30mph

    Hi all,

Thanks for your posts. But the car that i was cvomplaining about was a Toyota Yaris...

I reckon the person in it at the time would be quicker cycling.

I only wish I had a monster truck I could drive over it.......;)

There's nothing worse than a slow driver causing a tailback with every car almost on top of each other. One person suddenly brakes and you'd have a huge pileup. I don't mind slow drivers once they pull in but those that hog the road certainly don't help the 'ole road rage

It's probably why they drive so slow as they're not checking the speedo :D

I actually got one of these "THICK/SLOW" ones today aswell. He drove 20kmh/h on road where you could do 60km/h. i **** you not! Driving 50km/h at 60km/h spot i could understand, but 20?!!?!?!?!?!?

Can't believe the Nissan Almera 1.4 has been omitted, theres a silver one on the old N6 between Loughrea and Oranmore every morning flat to the mat @ 40 mph:D

Good girl. Thats the way to learn have nobody to show you what your doing wrong. I suppose she is one of those women who drive with their chin on the steering wheel so if the air bag goes off it explodes in their face.

Honestly, I think they're more dangerous than someone speeding, everyone's trying to get by them and they could be the cause of a pileup.

The best slow drivers are one who do a constant speed everywhere.

    120km/h - they do 60
    100km/h - they do 60
    80km/h - they do 60
    50km/h - they do 60

Boy do I get that too... I always drive old 1.4 (or so) cars, so people automatically assume I'm going slow, when in fact I drive at the speed limit (I allow myself 5 km more on occasions, speedometer calibrating etc...).
    It's like a ballet behind me :D.

At one stage I had an 89 opel corsa, the old saloon models with the boot, it looked so old, and yet, was well able for the 100km/hr on the road I commute on. WELL... you should have seen the things going on behind and beside me. The idiots didn't bother looking at their speedometer before they overtook at all.

Now if they're 75mph drivers in a 60mph zone, then fair enough, I'm the slow driver who pretty much sticks to the limit.

We had an '86 hatchback Corsa that was well able to do 70mph, we even have a 44 year old car at home that'll cruise along at 60mph no problem ;)

Was driving southbound on N7 yesterday and stuck in a convoy of cars all following a silver toyota avensis that was only doing 70-80km/h from just outside mountrath to the turn off for rathdowney - shocking driving.

    Must have been a Micra...

Im afraid you have to make allowances for the old and incompetant drivers who do this.....they should be put off the road, but whilst they are allowed on the road, they are entitled to go whatever speed they want and frankly it would be dangerous to get them to go quicker. Yes, they should pull in but Id ratherthey didnt take their eyes off the road to check the mirror....

None of that makes them any less annoying though...

:D sounds like my dad, he had a 1980 Golf for years (still has it in a garage!!) and he used to drive everywhere at about 45 and it used to drive us demented as kids when we were going somewhere exciting like the beach for the day! we were always telling him to speed up cos we thought we'd never get there! So I'm sure there were lots of people cursing him in the cars behind.
