I read an article about this in the InGear section of the Sunday Times 2 weeks ago and I was very impressed. It is launching in Ireland tomorrow at about €175 and I plan to buy it. I was just wondering whether anyone has heard anything that I should consider before purchasing? Any faults or anything?

It looks very impressive and it's size is fantastic. I currently have a 30gb Creative Zen Vision M so effectively I will be halfing my memory but I formatted my player a couple of months ago and only have 4 gigs on it at the moment so it shouldn't matter.

Sony's are generally pretty good. Check HMV on Grafton St, they have the X1050 reduced to €110 if you want a bargain. Might be sold out by now..

I'll check them out in my local HMV tomorrow. Any problems with that model I should note?

The browser sucks. Other than that, it's pretty excellent. Sorry about assuming you were in Dublin, I was on my phone on the mobile site so couldn't see your location.

    No bother at all.

It sounds that you have the model yourself? Is the user interface awkward to use since it is primarily touchscreen? I'm just wondering about finding songs/scrolling/using the radio/etc.

I bought it as a gift for my girlfriend recently, but I've spent a bit of time with it. It has hardware buttons for volume/forward+back/play+pause, so the touchscreen is just for selecting songs mainly, if you've used an iPod touch it's fairly similar. The touchscreen itself is very responsive and because it's OLED it looks great.

    There's a good write-up of it here http://www.anythingbutipod.com/archives/2009/06/sony-x1000-review.php

If it is reduced in the local HMV I may well it up.

Does anyone know if the a845 has the sensme technology like the S series? Could not see it on the video but would be surprised or perhaps disappointed if it does not.

I bought the A845. What is this "sensme" technology and I'll try tell you whether it has it or not.

    Hey Jackobyte

It sorts the music automatically into types depending on the tempo of the music. Therefore end up with self sorted categories from classical to energetic music (Alternative, heavy etc), also sorts the music into morning, daytime and evening listening.

I found it great for the gym, as I could listen to upbeat music easily. Or in the evening depending on my mood I just selected the category for the type of music I felt like listening/relaxing to.

No, it doesn't have this capibility I don't think. I haven't came across it if it does and I have visited all menus and option screens I believe.

Thanks for your help. All the other features sound great in it. Will have to weigh up the differences and decide what model... half the fun of shopping :)

I'm not sure whether you are familiar with a noise cancelling feature. The player is fantastic at blocking out low sounding noises (very effective against traffic noises, etc) but won't block out voices and higher pitched sounds (it won't block out a radio in the background). Just another thing to consider.
