Seperate assessment and standard rate band

My wife and I both have PAYE are self-employed income. The self-employed income is variable and difficult to know until end of year how much it will be. We'be been on separate assessment for past few years.

When we fill in Form 11 for end of year return we don't have the additional rate band allocated to either of us and don't get the benifit of the additional 20% band for both spouses working. It's decleared on Form 11 that we are married and PPS of other spouse is given as well. I thought Revenue would allocate automatically based on final income.

Can this be allocated retrospectivly ? It's only just come to my attention that this has been the case for past few years and we've not got the benifit of the additional 20% band and both of us should be due refunds.

How do I sort this out ?

    Thanks.

Ring up revenue and ask for it to be allocated manually.

Or opt for joint assessment....How much do you trust your wife :)

    Kind Regards
