HTC Desire compass problem

Anyone else having trouble with the compass on their HTC Desire? It worked fine for the first few days, but now it doesn't work in any apps. I downloaded a compass app but it says there's an abnormal magnetic field detected. When I calibrate it it works for a minute or so (but it's a lot jerkier than it was when I first got it) then it goes again. I've tried it in a few different places.

Mines fine after 2 weeks, used it a fair few times, no problems.

What compass app did you use? I'll try it on mine.

I absolutely don't trust the compass on the desire. I keep having to calibrate it and depending on whether you do that vertically or horizontally it will vary. Sometimes it won't evrn move as you adjust the phone direction.

Same here it seems like this problem just occurred recently and I'm guessing this is a cause of the software of the desire. I was also able to use the feature before but now it started malfunctioning and everytime I use it I have to calibrated and after couple of minutes the problem still occurs. I also uploaded a video of the problem and hopes HTC deals with this problem seriously and fixes it with future updates

Hey, i got mine from the android market, it's called 'compass' and its by snaptic. Not sure how accurate it is, but i point it to dublin and it says east, i point it to Galway and it says west so seems to work for me.

    Go team!

I'm not sure, I think it's just called compass. It started happening with layar before I even installed the compass app though so that's not the problem. I only really installed the compass app so I could use it to calibrate it.
