    Hi,

I bought an Akai LPD8 and use it with a Windows XP sp3 laptop. When I plug it in, windows recognises it and installs the USB Audio driver.

However when I use the LPD8 Editor or Ableton Live the only options for midi devices are Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth or Microsoft Synthesizer.

I have gone in to device manager and deleted the USB Audio device driver that corresponds to the LPD8, then tried again with the same results.

Anyone know what the problem is?

    Thanks

so... I know this might sound mad, but have you tried:

plugging it into a different USB port
    rebooting the PC

and are you trying this before or after you open Ableton?

Yeh tried all the ports and have rebooted a few time with no luck.

I noticed my other midi device, Oxygen 8 keyboard, doesnt work now either. So Im guessing its something missing in windows.

I open ableten last. So have everything connected first.

yeah, that's def a windows driver issue I would say...

    hmm...

    unless it's the USB cable?

tried a dif one of those?

    A few more questions:

    did it used to work?
    do other USB things work?

    Right,

I asked Akai the same question and they sent me a registry file over writes keys that Logitech webcams install.

    Heres the read me.

Windows does not list the device

Due to an apparent bug in Windows it has been observed that a certain
registry keu can cause USB MIDI Class devices not to show up in software
applications. The key is called LowerFilters and is set, for example,
    by many Logitech USB products.

We have supplied a registry file to remove the offending registry
entry. The file is called LowerFilters_remove.reg and comes without
any warranty. Try this at your own risk!

Many thanks to the good folks at Elektron who first identified this
    problem with Windows.

    All fixed now!

Thanks to everyone who tried to help.
