Hi, I noticed over a year ago that some of the clothes they stock in New look were also on sale in Dunnes, obviously with their own brand names on them. Last week I saw a dress in Dorothy Perkins that I liked but at 50e I didnt think it was worth it.
Tonight I bought the exact same dress in Dunnes, with the same belt, for 25e.
    How can they do this?

SNAP....noticed the exact same thing myself. Lots of Dorothy Perkins stuff is in Dunnes for way way cheaper....Saw a dress in DP for 60E and got it for 20 something Euro...Black and white stripey...with same black belt. So exact same Dress not even better quality material in DP. Its mental...but just show how much of a rob DP prices are.

Just to go alittle off topic but If i like stuff from DP i either check in Dunnes or else try it on in store and order online. There sterling price is great and also often do 20% off on website too. And with delivey only £4 no mater how much you buy...its works out soooo much cheaper.

Wasn't Dunnes the subject of a lawsuit a few years back for doing that exact thing? Hmm, must go have a google.

/edit: Yep, they ripped off Karen Millen http://www.rte.ie/business/2007/1221/dunnes.html

I think DP is an absolute rip off. The price difference from the website in sterling to in the shops here in euro is disgraceful!

Also, some tops are so not worth it, say for example, a floral print vest is €20 and the quality of the material is terrible! You'd get the same type thing in Penneys for €7. I don't shop in DP anymore because the things I was buying weren't worth the money I was paying!

I think the thing with Dunnes and DP selling the same dresses etc is that they just get them from the same supplier...obviously they pay the same price for buying them but DP charge waaay more. But i defo check out the stuff in store 1st and with buying online at the sterling price and with 20% off and only 4E delivery the clothes in DP are good value then!! But it just shows though that many high street shops buy from the same suppliers but charge very different prices for the same product....!! Shameful really...Rip off ireland!!

i noticed similar when i worked in awear a few years ago, there was a dunnes across the road stocking the exact same jeans just a different label. afaik theyre from the same supplier, not ripping off the design. everything was the exact same, colour of threads, button designs, etc., just the label in the back was different.

This is very common, it's just the same supplier...it's even more obvious in the Miss Real range in Dunnes and the concession ranges in New Look.

I think all the shops are doing it!

Dunnes have come on alot in the last few years, I was going out recently and wanted something new to wear and flew into Dunnes on the way home and got a fab dress for something silly like €15 and saw similar in New Look for double

A friend of mine works in River Island and recently she was sorting through a batch of jeans that had come in. She noticed a tag was coming off one of the jeans and took it off. Underneath it was another tag "Primark". (the stock comes in from the UK), so obviously River Island and Penneys is the same stuff.
She also told me that the shorts and hotpants they sell in the summer are last years jeans that didn't sell. They just cut the legs off and still charge the same price!

That's way too far-fetched for me to believe!

Dorothy Perkins are madly expensive, I don't know why most of their clothes are badly made and of cheap material.

I remember someone telling me that Dunnes bought in shop seconds before, don't know if it's true though.

Pennys have really come a long way though, most of their clothes you will see dearer versions in the likes of river island, no name etc. its definitely a good thing, especially been a student with lack of funds.

    Yep,

I bought a dress of boohoo.com for 15 squids, saw it dunnes (miss rebel) the following week for €34! Another boohoo dress I bought is now on the newlook website for twice the price.

Dunnes used to sell exact lipsy replicas too. I also once bought my husband a shirt in Dunnes in that centered line they used to do, nice shirt, dunnes label inside etc, when I got it home I noticed it had river island printed on the buttons then saw the exact same shirt in river island for twice the price!!

It's basically the factories in China etc send samples to all the shops, and they place their non exclusive orders with them.

As far as I know dorothy perkins doesn't sell their own stuff they just stock a selection of brands (like asos etc do) like uttam london etc, I just realised this there checking out their website. Have a look you'll see what I mean.
