Perhaps this isn't very AH-y, but I'm looking for some ideas to cheer up a friend who has just been dumped out of the blue after a 3 year relationship. Not sure what to say to her let alone how to cheer her up.

Anyone got any serious/ silly/ fun ideas?

Find her a "friend with benefits"

    Melt marshmallows!

It's a lot more fun than it sounds...

Jaysus there's not a lot you can do to help anybody in that situation. Anything will invariably be just a distraction!

Go on the lash I suppose?

How about keeping your nose out of it!

Give her a nice big full on kiss, record it and post it on here.

Just make sure to do something with her as often as possible - cinema, lunch, dinner. She'll probably appreciate the company more than anything you could give her (no dirty jokes please!)

A big girly night in, or out, having company might help

Just be there for her. If she wants to go out,let her know you'll go with her. If she wants to be left alone, give her a bit of space. She'll know herself that you're there for her.

    Thats not very nice.
A true good friend will be there for support if its needed without over-interfering.

OP - I'm sorry to hear that your friend and Tiger Wood's broke up!
At least she was not on her own that week I suspect. ;)

Ask her to help you with something, it will take her mind off things and won't make her feel like your helping her out of sympathy :)

Be there for her, as a friend should and she will appreciate you so much in long run

    Strip-Club!!!

Either that or get her hooked on Heroin, should take the edge off.

I'm quite useless when in your position OP, it's fairly hard to cheer someone up when they've been in a relationship that long. I would say have a few pints but I dunno what you wimmen drink nowadays, Diet Heinekin? :pac:

Suppose all you can do is hang around with her and do some stuff together, watch some funny films or something

I'll take a wild stab here, but do you lack the fortune of having friends?

OP, take them out for a meal maybe? Girly night in with some DVD's and lots of munchies? Go for a long drive somewhere or a trip out of your area to somewhere nice? Have a chat and be there for her...

Don't do anything out of the ordinary.

I find it's best to leave people get over it themselves. Everyone does in the end. Just make sure they have a shoulder to cry on if they need it.

A redtube link would be helpful.

A good rug cleaning session would cheer us all up.

Tell her there's plenty more fish in the sea, even blind ones for complete fecking losers like her. That'll make her smile.

Stab her in the shoulder blade. It's not life threatening & the pain will help take her mind off things for a bit.

Slap her in the head with a wet fish.

It may not be funny at the time, but in a few years she'll look back at it and appreciate the sheer comical value of it.

Well, it's a horrible situation to be in, but the fact that she obviously has friends who care will make it so much more bearable.

Different people handle this kind of thing differently, and, like has already been said, it's important that you are there for her to talk to and cry to. And, yes, sometimes she will want to be alone and you should leave her to it.

However, it's no good to spend too much time mourning and distractions are good. I have to recommend go-karting. A friend of mine went through a horrific break up a while ago. We couldn't snap her out of her unhappiness. But, we had arranged to go go-karting previously and she came out with us.

Well - the difference between her before and after. She had been wallowing in misery beforehand, but you can't not feel good after zipping around a track on a kart. Plus, it was something new that she didn't connect at all to her ex. We laughed our hearts out during and after and it was great to see her so happy again.

Another thing we did was book a girlie holiday in the sun for August. Now she has something to look forward to that has nothing to do with the ex.

Or slap her in the face with a cod & tell her that it's the last one ever.

Probably better if it was a wet cock....
