Scheduled SKY+ recording while in standby

I will be away for the British open golf and I was just wondering how reliable SKY+HD box is for recording scheduled programs while in standby.

Has anybody recorded before in standby while they were away? Were there any interruptions? I will need to record 4 days of 6+ hours golf.

What is the most reliable method of recording - using the planner or doing it manually? I hear a lot of people's recordings have failed due to planner software.

i usually let the planner handle it.

you could just make sure you have the next program scheduled recorded on the last day (in case of playoff)

ensure you have plenty of space on the planner, and there is no clashes with other programs.

thats all i can think of .

Was on hols for 2 wks recently. Everything recorded fine on hd box just using planner. Not sure what may happen if schedules change though. As prev poster says just make sure you have enough room for 24 hrs especially if recording in hd

    Thanks guys,

    Good thinking about possible play-off!

My sky+HD box is only new but i have heard a lot about "hidden failed recordings" and other software bugs associated with recording. Have you guys done that planner rebuild thing on your box?

The reason I ask is should I do a planner rebuild on my box even though I haven't had a failed recording yet? Does this make it more reliable? Reliability for these 4 days while I am away is of utmost importance :D

another alternative if you're a bit computer savvy is to set up your account on the sky website. If you're box is hooked up to the phone ( and of course it is ;) ) you can schedule extra things to record on their website or even on a phone

Ive had my hd box for 3 years, and have never done a planner rebuild.

(had to change the power supply)

Why did you have to change the power supply?

a known problem with the capacitors on the transformer board. (mostly with the thompson boxes i think)

the picture would break up on some channels, and some channels wouldn't display at all.

not had any problems since. :)
