Advice about signing on

    Hi,

To cut a long story short, my contract employment was this week cut completely. Was actually asked to have my desk cleared by the end of the day by 'men in suits' which was scary and kinda upsetting. I have worked for just under 6 months in this position.
I have been straight onto the agencies and websites looking for a new job, but know that it may take time.
My question is: Since I will be getting a (small) pay packet at the end of the month, when should I contact my social welfare office? I should get my P45 at the end of May also. Do I wait until then, or let them know now?
Also I turn 24 at the begining of June - does this complicate matters, what with the under 24 rule that came in last year??

    I appreciate any advice!
    Thanks.

Go to your SW office straight away and submit your claim just explain that your P45 won't be sent to you till end of month, regarding the over 24 rule i expect you will just get the lower rate till you turn 24 and then the higher rate but i'm not sure

id say they may tell you to come back when you have ur p45, but you will be entitled to backdated sw. thats horrible about work by the way

Not to hijack this thread but I've been put on gardening leave and my contract ends June 4th. Can I do anything now or must I wait until after june 4th?

    Hi All,

Thanks for the replies - I phoned the SW this morning and after about 5 million rings I was told to come up when I have my P45.....
Fingers crossed I have a job by then!
