    Help really appreciated!:D

Ok so it goes like this in a family : Mum, Dad and Son
2 Cars : Opel and Toyota

Insurace with Aviva goes as follows

    Dad = Toyota
Mum = Opel + Son Named on it

Son buys a new VW Passat and switches Policy from Opel over to it and says
mum owns it;). Then mum goes to Axa and gets herself insured on Opel aswell.

    Can this be done ?

I think this has been answered before.Your mother will be making a false declaration to the insurance if she says she owns the Passat if you're the registered owner, and the insurance will be void.

just put the car under your mothers name. give her the money and let her buy, it'l still be yours and you wont be lying

And if you transfer ownership of the Passat to Mum, she then owns two cars and will either: have problems insuring them both (especially with the transparent fraud of a named driver on one) or will have to make another false declaration and pretend to Axa that she's only the registered owner of one motor.

All of this fraud may work to get an insurance disc which will get you past a checkpoint, but you will find you have paid a lot for very little when you need the actual insurance.

I'm not condoning anything or knocking anything here but what's wrong with his mother owning two cars? I don't see an issue with it?

Don't lie or try to trick your insurance company. They've seen it all before and you'll be the only one to lose out.

Nothing, she just wont be able to use her NCB on two policies, she will have to start a new policy from scratch

Have you discussed this with your mother,or is this just blue skies thinking?

There are two other issued here:

    1. Mum can only use her existing NCB on one policy, so her second policy will be more expensive.

    2. If there's an accident, the ins co will look askew at mum being down as the main driver on two cars, one of which has you as a named driver. This could end up in the policy being voided, making for a very nasty situation.

Personally, i'd advise you to get your own policy on your own car. It may cost a bit more, but you're sure you're covered and you'll be building an NCB in your own name.

in a very similar situation myself..

Im 19, was insured on the oul lads fiesta the last few months and got the full license 2 weeks ago.
Lookin to buy my own car and get insured by myself now but the insurance quotes are waaay to dear, even for a scrawny 1 litre!

whats the best thing to do in this regard? anyone know the best place to get cheap insurance when you're a young driver?? cheers

My 2 cents would be to do the decent thing and take out your own insurance on the Passat - that way everything is legal and above board and you won't run into bother if you need the insurance...

Maybe a way to get the price of the insurance down is to put your mother or father as named driver on your policy as a more experienced driver down as named driver can bring the cost of your insurance down...

I'd say just bite the bullet and start a policy in your own name, at least then you're building up a No Claims Bonus. I got my full licence a few weeks before I turned 19 and got my own policy with Quinn on a 1.3 Fiesta for 1600 with the policy starting on my 19th birthday
