Advice on coming off/staying on Dole during Hibernia teaching practice

    Hi all,

I have a bit of a dilemma. I'm going on unpaid Hibernia teaching practice for 4 weeks next week. For those who don't know what it is it's a part time evening/weekend teaching postgraduate course, much of which is completed online. Applied for it and started it a couple of months ago after I was made redundant from my engineering job 9 months ago.

Now ideally I'd like to come off the dole for the time I'm on TP as technically I'm not available for full-time work, and it's the right thing to do, but I'm worried about the hassle there will be trying to sign back on once I'm finished (ie. if they actually will let me sign on as I'm doing Hibernia - I've heard some horror stories and some good news ones - and if they do the length of time it will take).

However if I do stay on the dole I'll miss my sign on day, as the desk in the Cork city SW office is only open until 12:30. Additionally, there's the whole moral side of it!!

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated, as this is bothering me quite a bit
