Just a quick little query I always meant to ask. How are they bringing "unity" to the paranormal community? Is it a case of unity but under their banner? Not having a go I just dont get the TAPS thing..

Lots of people dont get the TAPS Family thing, and Im not surprised as its a bit closed off.

Basically the community they are referring to isnt the overall world paranormal community, but to the TAPS Family community. They look for serious minded research groups the world over, those who genuinely want to know what the paranormal is about, and not bent on making money off it nor necessarily believing that 'ghosts' etc exist. They look for even headed skeptical research groups basically, and then all these groups work together (ourselves and PRAOFI for example have access to a private TAPS server) in discussing ideas on what the paranormal may be, sharing procedures and ways of doing things etrc - basically networking and learning. As well as this, TAPS also takes in a lot of case requests from their main site and sends them out to the appropriate teams in the appropriate countries.

Plus it's growing every day. Im actually part of the TFM International Recruiment team which means we involve more teams from countries that currently aren't represented. There's quite a bit of interworking that goes on between various TFMs spread throughout the world. Next year, for example all the TFMs have been invited to Germany for an investigation with one of the German TFMs.

That is a paranormal community that is unified.

Basically it's all about research on one hand, and helping people deal with apparent paranormal activity on the other. That 'helping', for the vast majority, is simply encouraging those who request help to think logically by suggesting alternate solutions to their otherwise 'paranormal' experiences.

Last night's show featured Marie Davis, author of "PSIence," and co-author of "The Dejavu Enigma," written with Larry Flaxman. Join Kris, Jeff and guest presenter, Dave not only for the genuinely eye opening interview with Marie, but also as they discuss George Cloony's Pet Pig and introduce our amazing competition to win some Creepy Hollow Gear from GHI's Paul Bradford.

The interview is really good in this one.

So - every other Wed night on http://para-x.com at midnight ... including tomorrow night.

The shows are proving pretty popular so far. From May until July we had around 5000 itunes downloads and when I checked Augusts stats yesterday, we've had voer another 5000 odd downloads this month alone - half of those being the last show on August 9th. The average listenership to each broadcast is (according to Para-X.com) somewhere around the 20,000 mark so join in tomorrow night at midnight!

For those of you into Cryptozoology, the latest TAPS Family Radio show from the other night has a great interview with Loren Coleman.

The show is now two hours long, broadcast live every other Wednesday at 12 midnight, and the other twelve shows we've done since May 2010 have totalled over 26,000 podcast downloads at this stage.

It's a good listen. Check out any of the shows at http://tapsfamilyradio.radiocrackle.com.

Isn't TAPS the team which does Ghost Hunters? I have a slight problem with TAPS in that they claim to be skeptics (open minded etc) and yet iv seen the way the team investigates and some of them seriously think they have communicated with spirit. Perhaps im getting this wrong but is TAPS not that same group?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,744 ✭✭✭✭maccored

the two boys from taps do the whole ghost hunter show thing, but ghost hunters is a paranormal TV show first and foremost if you ask me. If anyone thinks any different then they're being a tad naive.

Just though, because Ghost Hunters has TAPS people in it, that doesn't really have anything to really do with TAPs as an organisation nor the TAPS family. Taps Family is basically a network of groups working together.

As I say, GH is a tv show so Im sure theres a lot of makey uppy marketing going on - though I would argue that theres been a lot of **** talked when it comes to taps actually ever faking anything. So far I havent seen any definitive proof of that. If anyone has, plus let me see it. ('definitive' is the key word there)

they claim to be skeptics (open minded etc) and yet iv seen the way the team investigates and some of them seriously think they have communicated with spirit

and if they're skeptical then even if it looks like there maybe a paranormal angle to something, that means they automatically shouldn't believe it? Can't say I understand that reasoning especially if they're meant to be open minded to the idea. Again though, it is TV we're talking about here.
