Holidaying in Lagos - is car hire recommended?

    Hi,

We're hoping to fly in to Faro in a few weeks, and go from there to Lagos. Staying in the Vilaranca apartments, as overall they seemed to be the 'safest' option :)

We're trying to decide whether to hire a car or not. We don't plan on doing any major tours, but with hefty enough (approx 80 euro each way) transfers from Faro to Lagos then it might make sense even for that part.

I have 2 questions to start off with, hoping someone can answer them!

Firstly, how difficult is it to get from Faro airport to Lagos by public transport (taxi to Faro train station, train to Lagos, taxi to apartments - but how reliable are the trains?)

Second question is, how difficult is it to drive around Faro/Lagos? I've never driven on the other side of the road and its been about 10 years since my partner has. Its not that either of us can't do it I imagine, but suppose I'm just wondering what the roads & other drivers are like over there;)

    Thoughts?

i'd rent a car without shadow of a doubt, rent of a car through holidayautocarhire is about 100 quid a week for a small car, we always find the car great over there as there are so many lovely local restuarants dotted around the countryside, also if there are ever overcast days having the car is great as u can take a drive to some stunning towns/villages such as sagres, carrpateria, monchique, silves

as for driving on the other side of the road, i find it very easy to adjust to

Get yourself an automatic is you can, it's much easier to drive on the right side of the road with an automatic as you don't need to worry about gear changes and clutch.

Hire the car, if you can drive any of the country roads here in Ireland then driving over there is simple.

Tour around the village and move inland as well, some greta sites and nice restuarants to be found.
