    Hi folks.

Is it possible to set the sync frequency for the Gmail program on the HTC Desire? I cannot seem to find the option for it.

Open up your gmail account. menu button > settings > send & receive > Set download frequency

When I open the Gmail program I don't see the send & receive options under settings

Open mail on your Desire. When in the inbox, hit the menu key. Click on more. Click on Settings. In the settings menu, click on Send & Receive. In that menu, there's an option called 'Set download frequency.' In there, you can set the sync options for Peak times and off peak times. You have the option of manual sync, every 5, 10, 30 minutes, every hour, 2 or 4 hours or once a day. That should sort you out.

I don't use the HTC mail program, I just use the Gmail program. It's not a big issue, I'll just refresh it manually.

Ah ok! Any particular reason? I find the standard mail app is fine!

No reason other than too lazy to set it up :D I'll give it a shot this evening.

The Gmail application is push. The server lets your phone know so the refresh is when ever you recieve an e-mail (granted there is a small delay the odd time)

    That makes sense. Thanks.

Why would anyone suggest using the Mail application for GMail??

@OP, as long as your Sync is enabled (second from the right), updates should be instant.

I didn't take it, but to take screenshots your phone has to be rooted.

I think rooting maybe makes it easier, but you can do it without rooting.

The actual push service is just for Gmail. Yahoo and others would have to be setup in the standard mail client
