How accurate is Dell's ''Estimated Delivery Date''?

Ordered a laptop from Dell during the week and the payment was just approved.

They say : ''The Estimated Delivery Date for this order is on or before 2010-05-18.''

Im just wondering, from past dell customers, how accurate that date usually is??

Usually they get it ahead of time by a week or more. Got my last system in 5 days but........ Funny you should be posting because i just ordered a laptop on the 5th of May with delivery estimate 19th May but was shipped Saturday 8th and have no tracking or delivery info at all.....I mean is it still at the depot, is it in a van riding around Ireland, or is it all make believe.....Bad srvice from Dell not to offer tracking for INT i.e. DPD deliveries!!!!!

I bought a PC from Dell last year. Their estimated delivery date was fiction. When they did try and deliver I was out and they left a note to say that the PC could be collected from a depot somehwere in Dublin 1. When I eventually found the 'depot' it was a dodgy looking warehouse in the Docks area of Dublin. I swear it was the last building nearest Holyhead.. Well the saga continued after I got the PC home and it simply wouldn't allow me load the software that came with it... Rang rang rang Dell, Tech support, reload Windows blah blah blah... I ask for refund... They say you have to go 'legal'.. I did... Small Claims Court claim... Quick reply from Dell... Full refund given + Court fee... PC collected from my workplace... Dell?? Never again !

I have ordered a few laptops in the last 5 or 6 years , all of them have been delivered by DPD , and never have had a problem , the only annoying thing is that dell's system don't give you accurate updates , but all of they were delivered well before the date I was given , hope I'm not after jinxing myself now by saying that as I'm ordering a new laptop this week .

So the online update is no good? Ill keep that in mind!

The sales agent Im dealing with seems to be keeping me up to date pretty well but we'll see does he keep this up now.

What you see on the screen doesn't tally with what they see on the factory floor. Unless they've changed systems in the past year or two, they download the orders from the web system into the production system and then upload them as they progress. When it's downloaded it should update as being in production but all that means is that it's been downloaded. What you see after that often isn't updated until it's in a box on its way out the door.

So how accurate? Erm, fluidly sort of relational to what's probably the best guess as to what's going on until it's shipped.:)

Wouldnt you know it, my estimated delivery time has been put by two months. How can it take them two months??

Only two days ago, the agent Im dealing with said it would be delivered by 18th May , and now its been put back til July 5th!

I cant wait this long for such a big purchases, as I need to start work on it from next week on. Can I get a refund??

Would it be to do with parts being unavailable? I made one or two minor adjustments i.e. colour of laptop, upgraded to 4gb ram.

I hope its a glitch, or I'll be demanding a refund.

You can try get through to a rep but I dont know how far you'll get. Give it a day and see if it updates and after that get on the blower and go nuts at them.

Do ye think I'd be intitled to a refund though?

I've ordered from them two times, on both occasions the delivery date estimate (coming from Limerick mind you) was at least 2 days early.

Hi op, I am just wondering how did you get on with your delivery date after? I am looking at buying a studio 15 for college, so just wondering about delivery times?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 289 ✭✭SoCo2009

They did get it out to me alright. 3 weeks in took after being told it would take 10 days but I was fearing it would be worse!

Expect about 3 weeks roughly, and completely ignore any 'estimated' time they give you to avoid disappointment.

The laptop itself is excellent. No problems at all so very happy now!

Mine is now showing as 'shipped' which I assume happened today (why is there no log!). Any idea how long it takes after it's shipped? I've no tracking or anything since its with 'INT' or something.

You'll probably receive it by next Thursday or Friday then mate. Arrives from Poland (INT means with Interlink).
Since production moved to Poland - the delays with getting the machines to our shores is such a pain in the nads.

A week to get here from Poland? I didn't think it was that far away :D

Oh well, thanks. Still better than the estimated delivery date!

Interestingly they still have the Limerick address on their packing slips (the online one atleast).

Yep - something like 4 days by road apparantly. Cutbacks :)
Address is still Limerick on packing slip... but you will see the big PL stickers on the box when you receive.
