Advice On Sick Days!!

    Where i work if your sick for 2 days in a row its usually all good, any more than 3 in a row you need a doctors cert, if you dont have one you get paid for the 2 days but not anymore after the 2. if that makes sense?

    Last month a new policy came into affect and we signed off on a sheet stating that.

    If we have more than 5 uncertified sick days in a 12 month period, any days after that we need a doctors cert or we wont be paid.

    Unfortunatly i have had 4 since the start of the financial year and our sick/holiday year :(

    What they have done though is sat me down and told me i have 7 uncertified days because they rolled back 12 months from the 3 i had in 2009. And now i need a cert, from a year ago, i dont think so, or i'll loose 2 days moneys.

    My question really is, surely if i sign off on a new policy which is in our contract, The new policy starts from the day i sign.

    Are they allowed to make me sign off on an attendance policy and then go back 12 months from that date, or should the 12 months start from the date i sign the policy????

    So confused.

    Any info would be much appreciated.

    They can set the terms whatever way they want, then its up to you to sign it or not.

    many companies dont pay any sick days at all and there is no obligation to do so for the first 3 days certified or uncertified.
