DIRT tax in single income family

I was told today that if our savings were in my wife's name instead of mine we could avoid DIRT tax on the grounds that she is not working and has no income. We are both 60 yrs of age. Can anyone advise? Is there any advantage to puttings savings in joint names? Thanks
