I bought a new car in UK, brought it in and VRT'd it. Can I now export it and reclaim the VRT back?

It is mentioned here in paragraph 2.

    No you cannot.

    I wish.
I would be very tempted to bring in something exotic if that was the case. At least you could easily offload it again.

Sorry I need to be clearer.

I imported a UK car, I paid the registration tax to use the car in Ireland, now I want to re reg it on its original UK plates and take the car out of Ireland.

Surely this is a different scenario than normal.

"Vehicle Registration Tax is chargeable on registration of a motor vehicle in the State. All motor vehicles in the State, other than those brought in temporarily by visitors, must be registered with the Revenue Commissioners. A vehicle must be registered before it can be licensed for road tax purposes."

What is this form for then?

Application for deletion of registration and repayment of VRT (PDF, 44KB)
