    Evening all,

    Just to pick your brains.
My diesel van is running badly these days - in the mornings it is getting hard to start - battery is ticking over - but its takes ages to start. This morning when the van eventually started there was a puff of blue smoke out the exhaust.
There is also another issue that hasn't happened in a week - but when on the motorway, the van wont accelerate - I have to drop it into 4th or slow down a bit before Im able to accelerate again.

Maybe someone can shed some light as to why!!

    Cheers all

Starting problem could be glow plug related.

    Is it a 1.9D or a 1.5 dCi?

    its a 1.5
A glow plug doesn't sounds too bad!!

Yeah but the running badly wouldn't be glowplug related.

IMO best case scenario its whats called an EGR valve thats knackered......http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/posts/?t=45215

Worst case scenario its the fuel pump thats giving up and tiny bits of metal are contaminating the fuel system. Bad news im afraid if thats what it is.

    just a quick update.

it was the fuel injectors that were the issue.
4 of them needed to be reconditioned.
    Bad diesel

    Quick question.
    Was this vehicle ever misfuelled?

Not the first time I've heard of someone filling up their car in good faith with fuel that is of the "home brewed" variety. If you fill up regularly at the same garage then I'd be asking them some questions.

Throw some Diptene into your tank when filling, been keeping my diesels happy for years :)
